Hi all I'm currently in China and just bought a ticket online, flying Cathay Pacific to Australia. They sent me an electronic ticket, but I don't quite understand one part of it. It says; "AT CHECK-IN, PLEASE SHOW A PICTURE IDENTIFICATION AND THE DOCUMENT YOU GAVE FOR REFERENCE AT RESERVATION TIME" I'm not a very frequent flier, does anyone have any idea what this reference document is? I certainly didn't use anything for reference when I made the reservation. Is it just poorly worded English and means 'Your Passport’? Tried googling...no results. Probably really obvious...but I don't want to take any chances. Cheers all!
A passport is probably enough, but honestly, isn't this something that you should confirm directly with the Airline? Who wants to get stuck at the airport unable to board? Call them.
When you buy a ticket to fly from one country to another airlines usually require an identification for security reasons. This generally is a passport as some airlines will need to know that you actually can travel to other countries.
Also, I believe you need a travel visa to Australia. As a U.S. citizen I am able to apply online and get an instant verification associated with my passport number. Not sure about citizens of other countries.
When I went to Australia I applied for a travel visa but I never had to show it when I got there or was asked about it. I asked some other people there and they said as an American I shouldn't have needed one. I don't know if this is a new policy or a scam.
We did it in 2005. Since it is associated with your passport number, I assumed something pops up when they process your passport. Or....it may be a scam.
Thanks for all your replies, I will call them to confirm. I'm guessing it's just my passport but the wording is really strange. For clarification I don't fly very often but I have flown before, just haven't seen anything worded like this. And I'm an Australian citizen returning home so no Visa required (Didn't fly Cathay Pacific to China). Cheers Clutchfans!
