"I think they're going to be the best team in the West"

There's a big difference between "the best" and "going to be the best"

maybe he means it as "they're going to be the best team in the west...after the 82-game season is over"

    Here's what he said...

"I think they're going to be the best team in the West," O'Neal said. "They have a nice, strong experienced starting guard, not just a good starting guard. They have experience. Jim Jackson has been there before. Tracy McGrady is probably the greatest guard in the West. Juwan (Howard). They got Yao Ming. So they have a pretty good team."

Now, from that quote I can surmise that Shaq knows that we will be a force and we'll get better. It's a complement that is not without merit. He knows this. So, he's not just blowing smoke up our butts or just trying to "bash" Kobe.

"the Best" now, or "the Best" later. I'll take either one...

I just love how Shaq stresses out that TMac is the best shooting guard in the West (a jab to a certain you-know-who) while at the same time fails to mention Yao Ming's name at all. :D

Even in a sad day like this Shaq can make me laugh.

I know it is just one PRESEASON game, but count me as one that is impressed as well. I was surprised at Ward's play as well as how effective Howard was in the post. Again, I know it is the preseason, but I like how this team has fit together. If they can all gel together quickly, who knows how good this tean can be by season's end! So, I agree with Shaq, this could possibly be the best team once the dust settles.

Agreed. positives were Deke, Lue, and to some extent gaines. once our team gells and starts playing in a more " Cohesive" Manner, top 3 in the West is a real possiblity.

its really bull **** that reece gaines gets more props for dribbling down the basline, and hitting one jumper, when hawkins looked more impressive out there on the floor. and no wonder everyone wants gaines to play the point. he doesnt look 6,6 to me. him and michael jordan are listed at the same height but reece gaines still looks shorter than what he is listed.

Not just the best shooting guard, but the "greatest guard in the West." Wonder who Kobe thinks is the best center in the East?

Did you watch the game? Gaines is getting props because he constantly was setting teammates up with nice passes, including some great bounce passes...He is getting props for being a very good team player. Hawkins looked good as a scorer - Gaines looked good as a pg type...

Speaking of "greats" you gotta love how the media reported nothing but how Shaq "dominated" Yao & Deke all night(hell, yahoo even said the Heat WON!)...sorry, but think about it--if Shaq said the Rox suck then how bad would he look for losing (and almost fouling out of) his first Miami game?? Shaq does nothing BUT blow smoke--his opinion, positive or negative, doesn't matter...

Yeah, the funny thing is that the media (ESPN for sure...) is all hyped about Shaq in Miami. And they want CONTROVERSY. They pump-up Shaq before he does anything.

They *need* something to write about. And they LOVE the Kobe/Shaq feud! That's a media "gem" to them.

Yeah, Shaq's team just lost to the Rockets. You think he's gonna say our team sucks after we handed them a loss?

Nice jab at Kobe, by the way.
