I was interested to see how our record this year compares to last year's record so I checked espn.com and it turns out they were exactky the same, 34-20 on Feb. 23. Not only is this kind of a cool coincidence, I feel like its a very different 34-20. This team is playing with a confidence that I haven't seen from a Rocket's squad in years. Scoring is balanced, we have a strong scoring punch of the bench, and now we have a coach who is a bit less stubborn and is willing to make adjustments for any bumps along the way. I was extremely depressed and disappointed with our team for the first third of the season and was certainly losing faith in our boys. That has certainly changed now and I feel that regardless of all of the superstar moves that have gone down in the west, our defense can still shut down the best of them. I personally didn't think we would come close to 50+ wins towards the beginning of the season but I am quite convinced this squad is destined for greatness. Just trying to bring a little non-trade related/positivity thread into the mix...

If Gerald Green turns out to be our Rudy Gay we can be a very dangerous team in the off-season. A motivated player playing for his hometown dream team and try to prove something... im more excited about Gerald Green than Bobby Jackson

well, we'll see if what morey says about our staff being good at developing young players is true. he certainly has that athleticism we were lacking but we will see if you can teach bball IQ and fundamentals at this level...

What? This team has the same record as the great JVG's team did?

And in a year where the Western conference is off the charts good?

    You don't say.....

    ;)

The West was pretty good last year as well, and Yao+Tracy missed more games up to this point. Be fair.

I agree with the OP. This definitely is a better feeling than last year's 34-20. We haven't been on a roll like this in ages.

That said, a lot of us had a lot of confidence at this point even last year since we were doing well even with Yao out. This year, though, we are ROLLING even without anybody in the entire lineup playing particularly well.

... Also, I wouldn't get your hopes too high for Green.

This season has had a very different feel than last year. Last year, we were dealing with all the injuries, and that seemed to be the reason for our struggles. This year, it's been the tough early schedule and slow adaptation to Adelman's system. Either way, we're hitting our stride at the right time. We're building confidence and getting more balanced production from role players. Yao continues his upward trajectory. but T-Mac seems to be more of a facilitator than a differnece-maker this year. The 1 and the 4 positions have improved but are still worse than most of the contenders. Unfortunately, it seems like the West is tougher than ever, and no matter what seed we get in the playoffs, it's gonna be tough to make it far into the playoffs.

wouldnt it be crazy if we won ever single game from now on? and sweep every single team in the playoffs and be the champs?? geez, i wonder what TNT would say... probably..

Barkley: The Rockets winning the championship in 08 was a fluke. It should have been Denver because they have the best center in the west. It is a travesty that the Rockets won!

Smith: Like what Charles said, I believe it was a fluke... Denver should have won.

EJ: But the Rockets won the last 30 games of the season and swept everyone in the playoffs!

Barkley: It dudnt matter! The Rockets in my mind werent the best team! It should have been Denver, Utah and Goldenstate! It should have been Denver VS Miami

    EJ: Miami?!?

Barkely: Yes Miami because Dwayne Wade is in my top 5!

EJ: Anywaise, a lets go have a look back at the 2008 Season:

:::Screen shows a 10 second clip of the Rockets Championship Run, and 10 minutes of the Spurs VS Minnesota game that happened right after the all-star game:::

I would've said that a few weeks ago, but look at our toughest matchups historically:

    1) San Antonio - Looking older and more vulnerable than ever. We've beaten them twice in Houston and took the down to the wire in San Antonio without T-Mac.

    2) Dallas - We're 0-3 against them this season(we blew one of those at home in the final 2 minutes), but they're not the same team after the Kidd deal. I'll be very interested to see how we match up in our final regular season game in early March.

    3) Phoenix - 1-1 against them this season, but like Dallas they're probably a better matchup for us now after the Shaq deal. Marion always killed us in the past and now he's over in Miami.

And let's look at our other potential opponents in Round 1:

    1) Nuggets - A lot less intimidating now that they failed to get Artest. We blew them out earlier this season when we weren't playing well at all. And we took them to double OT in Denver without T-Mac and nearly won had it not been for a last second shot.

    2) Hornets - A wild card. They're a tough matchup for the Rockets, but they're also untested in the postseason.

    3) Jazz - This one's a tossup. It went down to the wire last season, so the same would likely happen this year. The good news is the Rockets proved they can win in Utah.

    4) Lakers - They'd be a b****, but I think we can take them. The key is Yao dominating Bynum and Pau and our bench outperforming theirs.

Spurs - Will be much tougher than you think come playoff time. They added thomas to match up with the bigs.

    Mavericks - agree

Suns - The less Shaq plays the better

Nuggets - Will be much tougher now that the stakes are higher.

    Hornets - agree

Jazz - They will be tough to beat in Utah right now.

Lakers - I give the edge to the lakers because of Kobe
