One more reason to hate the Cowboys, as if we need another. BTW - IIRC, it was TO that spiked the ball on the star at Texas Staduim - Why would they want him? Eagles level tampering charge at Cowboys Jay Glazer / FOXSports.com Posted: 3 hours ago Just when it seemed as if the Terrell Owens' situation was finally starting to settle down, yet another subplot has emerged — one involving tampering between division rivals. As first reported on FOX NFL Sunday, the Philadelphia Eagles have filed a tampering charge with the NFL against Cowboys owner Jerry Jones for comments he made this week regarding Dallas' penchant for going after players with baggage such as Owens. The claim was filed early this week and then Eagles owner Jeff Lurie phoned NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue to follow up on the matter. The Eagles were informed that the league office will be looking into the situation. The charge stems from comments Jones made on a radio show this week when asked about the possibility of picking up Owens. "I'm avoiding, deliberately avoiding, saying whether or not the Cowboys would be interested," Jones said. "He's a player that is a competitive player. He's an outstanding addition to an offense. ... In general, I am a risk-taker. We've gone down that road. We've had some situations that worked and some that didn't. Alonzo Spellman had a great year with us. Alonzo certainly had some issues. ... I probably have a propensity to try and make things work. ... We've got a quarterback in Bledsoe who is arguably as fine a long-ball thrower as there is in the league. A top receiver could flourish with Drew Bledsoe. That's always appealing." Under normal circumstances the Eagles would seem to have little chance of getting the league to levy a punishment on Jones and it still may. However, there is yet another twist that makes the Eagles case a bit stronger. FOX Sports has also learned that the league office last week sent a memo to all teams specifically warning them from direct or indirect contact with Owens as well as talking about the possibility of picking up the controversial All-Pro weapon. Both the memo and the tampering charge were issued prior to arbitrator Richard Bloch's 38-page decision earlier in the week that sided with the Eagles on all accounts of the Owens matter. It's unclear whether the Eagles continued their complaint after Bloch's ruling made the issue moot. The penalty for tampering is wide-ranging, with the worst being loss of draft picks. However, that is usually reserved for extreme cases. In this case, Jones never mentions Owens by name, although it's clear he isn't deflecting interest. Prior to the decision, however, there was rampant speculation inside the media regarding the potential landing spot for the beleaguered wideout. Many believed that Owens would actually be a free agent sometime this season, a notion that was knocked out when Bloch ruled the Eagles were not required to allow Owens use of the facility even after his suspension. Can this saga get any better? http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/5115410
personally, i don't see whats wrong. But I'm a cowboys fan. I have no idea why it should matter when' he's giving an interview, its not like he went to philly to recruit him.
If I was a Dallas fan (and I'm not), I wouldn't want him for two reasons: 1) Hell eventually cause cancer in the locker room 2) He insulted the team by disrespecting the logo Someone will pick him up though and I'm sure, like the Eagles and 49ers, theyll regret it later on. TO will never change IMO.
as a cowboys fan.....NO WAY IN HELL do i want this ****head on my team. but jerry jones has a very short and selective memory. he doesn't remember all the crap he pulled when he was with the niners, running out to the star showing up the organization. still one of my greatest memories as a cowboys fan was george teague leveling TO at midfield. it wasn't like winning the super bowl, but it's something i'll never forget.
I think he will change if picked up by the Cowboys. I think he will get WORSE. I didn't think it was possible after the San Francisco/Baltimore/Philly debacle, but I was wrong.
I thought that was Roy Williams? As for the tampering thing...well, I hate the Cowboys as much as anybody, but even I don't see what the big deal is with what JJ said. If that can be considered tampering, well, then I imagine lots of GMs tamper pretty much every year through the media.
What a great idea! Let's tank the season less than 15 games into it for an unknown commodity! Not smart.
And? Non-story. I thought this might maybe be about the cowboys getting Irvin to somehow goad TO into ****ing over the iggles. And even if that would have been the case ... big deal. And for the record, as long as they don't commit longterm to him, bring him on. He is what he is now: from franchise player to mercenary.
heh, just heard about this. Hope he gets canned by ESPN. I just don't like to hear him talk. Wish Sterling was still in his place.
Sterling is with the NFL network now I believe. Really the only guy I like on the pregame show now is Tom Jackson.
Nah, it was George Teague as this was before Roy Williams' tenure in the NFL. And that is a shame as if it was Roy that hit that idiot punk instead of Teague, I think TO would have been KOed for the rest of the season (sorta like when Roy horsecollared him into a broken leg). And I hate the Cowboys as much as anyone - I am just glad that my team (the Broncos) beat them this year.
This is r****ded. You had every GM/owner talking about Owens last week. Just because Jones is possibly the only one stupid enough to say he'd think about him on the team doesn't make it tampering.
