Our former coach spoke today in regards to his departure from our team and about the NBA playoffs. Two quick points: 1) The man is still hurting. If you listen carefully, he hasn't let go that he isn't the Houston coach anymore. But you can definitely hear regret and appreciation in his voice when he talks about the organization. 2) The interview cuts off unexpetedly at the end. But you got the whole Rocket conversation at the beginning of the interview. Enjoy. The Coach
Who cares. He didn't regret it when he was running over players like Deke in the playoffs when it could've been his last game of his career, or guys he alienated from this team. He had 4 years, got paid millions, and if his massive ego can't take the fact that they didn't want him anymore tough cookie.
We will see. Adelman will definitely upgrade this offense. I think it will be the Sacramento offense in his heyday combined w/ the JVG defense. Now that will be sweet!
Let them upgrade. At least we know Adelman can take a guy liek Kevin Martin and make him productive. He won't take a #8 pick, and athletic swingman and trade him off along with a PF for a non athletic spot up shooter. He also won't play an and 1 ball player 45+ minutes a game.
Sigh. Just stop. You managed to post nothing that made sense. 1. Kevin Martin was virtually identical in his production under Adelman to Luther Head this past year. 2. Van Gundy had nothing to do with making that trade. 3. Go tell me how Donyell Marshall and Gerald Wallace did with and without Adelman. Right. He'll play a rookie streetball Jason Williams 36 minutes a game instead -- 1 minute less than Rafer averaged. (And if you want to complain about Rafer's 37%/36% FG%/3P%, try Williams' 37%/31% on for size.)
The offense should get better but the talent is not there for it to be prime Sacramento quality. Also, the defense will almost certainly slip. Defense is something that has to be stressed constantly. I like all the talk from Adelman about making Yao better and Tmac more efficient but at this point in both guy's careers they are what they are. Yao is not a great passing center. He is good but he is not very good and certainly not great so don't expect Brad Miller or Vlade Divac type distribution from the high post. Tmac is still going to chuck bad jumpers no matter what offense you give him. It's just his style. Nope. The coaching change isn't going to be what gets this team out of the first round. To get out of the first round this team needs a few things: 1. Yao and Tmac healthy 2. Tmac's jumper to return and/or Tmac going to the rim on every play 3. The often mentioned upgrades at PF and/or PG I like Adelman's enthusiasm but scoring 5 more points a game but giving up 5 more isn't really much of a change now is it?
Yeah JVG's defense was so good we got torched when it counted the most. Don't recall us stoping the Jazz from scoring very well. They got open looks all series long. I do recall us not being able to score to save our play off lives and that's why the Rockets went fishing after round 1 once again. JVG would still be coaching if he knew three things: 1. How to make an adjustment before the fourth quarter ended. 2. How to coach all the players on the team not just your pets. 3. How to run an NBA offense.
JVG is such a whiner he goes from place to place to complain about how the owner looked into a diff direction.....wake up dude, you failed and cashed in, go analyze some TV games
Amel I agree with you statement 100%. As for the JVG backers I hope he does get a new gig and let us see what he can do for that team.
Not interested in the JVG drama. Bye bye and go make another 20 millions off dumb management somewhere with that regular season record. Obviously, JVG is pretty useful for teams that JUST want to make the playoffs.
Give me Kevin Martin anyday. A strong candidate for MIP, who can at least drive to the bucket, which is far more unpredictable than Luther who can't dribble to save his life. Now compare Martin's first year to Luther's first year under Assistant coach. If you are so gullible to think assistant coach and his broken win now philosophy had nothing to do with Shane I cannot help you, because he has a strong disposition against rookies. Then you point out Donyell and Gerald Wallace as if they are the most accurate assessments of his coaching tenure while ignoring every single player that has had a pretty good career under him, aside from the fact that Wallace was under developed and young on a team stacked with talent. Difference on Williams is that he could make plays for other players, he was a kid, and stupid. Imagine the surprise that they traded him, but oops his skillset comes into play again when he has matured a little more and he wins a ring. Don't see that with Rafer sorry. He was nothing more than another Gundy pet player.
Thanks Almu. I think he's a pretty good interview on radio. I guess he feels more comfortable when he doesn't have to show his face .
To be clear - the information we have is not that JVG was strictly fired because he couldn't get hte job done (though undoubtedly, a few more stray baskets vs. the Jazz and we're not having htis conversation), he was fired because he wouldn't agree to play more "Phoenix like" with the current (un phoenix like) roster. And McGradySNKT, stop it.
Uh, yeah. Kevin Martin's a lot more talented than Luther. Adelman had nothing to do with him breaking out under Eric Musselman. Sure. Martin as a rookie under Adelman: 10 mpg, 45 games, 3 pts, 39% FG%, 20% 3P% Head as a rookie under JVG: 28 mpg, 80 games, 9 pts, 40% FG%, 36% 3P% Head was a better rookie. Martin in his 2nd year under Adelman was as good as Head in his 2nd year under JVG. Martin developed into a productive player under Musselman. You still have no point. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/bk/bkn/rox/4014200.html Your point? What players are you talking about then? And you point out Kevin Martin is a great pick (as if the coach is in charge of drafting) while ignoring Todd Fuller. Hypocrite. Would Todd Fuller be Patrick Ewing if Van Gundy had coached him? Of course not. Just like Kevin Martin would be better than Luther Head regardless if Van Gundy, Adelman, Musselman, DaDakota, SamFisher, or you were the head coach. Players play; coaches coach. Yes. Sacramento regrets trading Jason Williams for Mike Bibby. And Jason Williams is the reason Miami won a ring. And now, I won't have to see anymore of it.
