Only thing that will save Kubiak or should save him would be a Superbowl victory or AFC Championship appearance
A play-off win would do it, since that would show a big step up in game management and preparedness. But just making the postseason wouldn't do it for me. Sorry, early on this year I was giving him the benefit of the doubt on the fumbles, tipped INTs, pick 6's, penalties, bad breaks, disappearing halves, etc. But not anymore. There are just too many occasions of them screwing up our chances in every game. The team lacks focus, which leads to many of the issues they have had this year. Focus is a coach thing.
I will take this caveat. You better be bringing in a clear upgrade if you do get rid of him. If you dont have that, you don't make the change.
Also agree, Kubes has done enough to earn another shot to fix things and honestly, while initially thought of as 3 meaningless games now seems like three of the biggest wins in franchise history.
Nope, Kubiak doesnt appear to be going anywhere soon. Had we lost these lost 2 games and/or ended up at 7-9, he would still be back imo. McNair came out and said it was on the players not the coach
Kubiak may not be Lombardi, but he's not Dave Campo either. Improved on this season: Schaub stayed healthy and probably makes the Pro Bowl Andre Johnson back with a vengeance Defense gradually improved with Pollard, Cushing, run stop Offense made some strides in red zone AND Playing for a PLAYOFF SPOT on the last Sunday of the regular season The negatives: Running game sucked Owen Daniel and Chester Pitts go down early... untold how much their losses hurt Mario turns in so-so season (hurt or not) Inconsistency in playing two halves of football Five losses in six divisional games (what separates the division winners from the wild card teams) Far more of the positives are credits to coaching than the negatives laid to their blame. Still an improved team over last year.
I've said since all this talk started that I didn't think McNair would have the stones to fire Kubiak this year. We would of had to of had a 5 win season or less for him to do it.
Have to get rid of Kubiak. A short win streak such as this seems to have made people forget how he managed games earlier in the year and partially put us in our current situation. He's shown us what he can do in 4 years and it's time to give someone else the reigns.
I don't completely put the MNF and Colts game on Kubiak. I think he's slowly starting to "get it." He finally realizes you don't have to run the ball repeatedly if your team sucks at running.
i went with if they show well, but 8-8 then one more season. i've seen improvement with the ball club every year but also alot of stuff that negates it. i'm willing to give Kubes another year. i think missing Owen Daniels is really what set this team back this year. he would have helped big time in those 4 divisional losses.
Kubiak is as much a work in progress as this team. The question is . . is he improving. I think NEXT YEAR is his make or break season. I think you can attribute about 2~3 losses to his coaching by the same token . . .he has to get some credit for the wins. I agree with the next year is the make or break. Add a few more pieces in the draft (RB!!!!) and we're good to go. What's scary is aside from OD and Pitts we stayed pretty healthy this year. (I don't consider SS a loss except for the fact that Chris Brown got more touches) Williams, Ryans, Okoye, Smith, D-Rob, Cushing, Schaub, AJ, Walter, Winston, and Brown all stayed healthy and these guys are your core. I am very worried that next year we won't be as lucky.
Going to be another 8-8 season and after the Pats game they will say "the team fought hard" "we didn't quit" "we are headed in the right direction" "its a good group of guys in the locker room" womp womp womp. Mcnair will give him another chance and will go 8-8 again. New Year same s***
Bob McNair strikes me as a conservative type of guy but I would fire Kubiak regardless of what happens next week. The problems that plague us when we lose are still there a lot of times when we win. Besides winning and losing, there wasn't a lot of difference between the Miami game and the Arizona game earlier this year. One crap half and one great half, the Cardinals were just a better team than Miami and that's why they beat us. Plus, it's awfully hard to make the playoffs when you get throttled in your own division.
