In The Matrix Revolutions, Neo, as the feminine force (despite being male) has to yield to Smith, the masculine force, as the two merge and life is created anew. Thought of another way, it was like sperm entering an egg and fertilizing it so that life could begin anew (remember that Neo is one while Smith is many like the sperm/egg relationship).

That's why I love that franchise. They put so much into it that you don't even begin to figure out some of it until years later.

Neo surrendered to Smith since he was connected with the thing from Machine City who used his code to deliver the Smith Antivirus. He sacrificed himself to stop Smith who was destroying The Matrix and bargain a truce between the humans and the machines.

It's really simple stuff. I honestly try not to remember the last two films because they ruin the first. The Matrix ended here, as far as I'm concerned:

All I know is that Colonel Sanders quit making chickens and became an architect and spoke big words. And Morpheus' daughter does pr0n.

Are you kidding me? NOTHING is simple with that franchise. Sure that may have been what happened on screen but there's always an underlying message in a series of movies like that. For example, Neo's name is an anagram for "One" as well as "[a]eon" while his real name, Anderson, literally means "Son of Man," one of the titles given to Jesus.

I believe chaos theory postulates that there is order in the madness. It's crazy, but ultimately simple. :)

Such a shame how badly that trilogy turned out. The first movie is such a classic.

The matrix is my favorite trilogy of all time, thats how good the first movie is. it makes up for the meh in the second and ****tness of the last one. I love the matrix, easily my favorite movie. Just a great movie, with a great plot and a movie that just makes you think.
