Not sure this is entirely Rockets-related yet, but it's being reported that the Utah Jazz are hiring Justin Zanik as an assistant GM. Zanik is Omer Asik's agent.

So for another "How much can change in one year?" moment, this was 12 months ago: The Rockets introducing a player that they may trade to another team at any point, flanked by the GM of the Sixers and the assistant GM of the Jazz.

Most likely not. Zanik worked for ASM Sports, an agency owned by an agent named Andy Miller. So, Omer is represented by the agency still. Omer may want to move, but he doesn't have to.

Philadelphia has Sam Hinkie and about $14 million of cap space available right now and way more cap space than that available next season. IF....we have to move both Asik and Lin out next summer to make room for a free agent signing....there is no question in my mind that Hinkie would jump all over a deal being handed Omer and Lin's contracts. In fact, if he indeed keeps the payroll down below the minimum payroll for this season, then that is essentially $6 million of extra unspent payroll dollars to help pay off those combined $30 million of salary in 14/15. Not to mention if he acquires them and they are charging $8.374 mil each against Philly's cap while he is paying them $15 million each...he can essentially choose to stay substantially under the cap for next season and wait and see what deals emerge at next season's deadline...since Asik/Lin will be counting over 50% towards the 90% minimum salary requirement of the CBA.

Philly also has Spencer Hawes and Arnett Moultrie on their roster. Hawes is an expiring contact...would make a nice long-term backup to Dwight. And Moultrie is a second year 7 footer who has 3-point range (although they didn't allow their bigs to shoot the 3 last year) and has shown good shooting proficiency from the left side of the floor.

Philly is a team that we should continue to watch in regards to Asik and Lin. I think Hinkie would take both guys in a heartbeat and I think there are many future trade possibilities involving multiple teams and the Rockets with Asik and Lin that could be funneled through Philly.

This year in Philly is Tankapalooza. The Hinkster is so concerned about '13-'14 W's he took 13 weeks to sign a coach, to encourage less prep time and more L's (ie ping pong balls).

    Now, Utah - -

Agree about Philly tanking. They're a team to watch long-term in regards to Asik/Lin. They are the ideal candidate to take Asik/Lin (either one or both) if needs be for 14/15.

I've always thought the 76ers would be a good destination for Asik, especially as they have Furkan What's-His-Name now. I wish we could swing for Nerlens Noel when he's healthy, but I won't venture into wishful thinking.

Only $5 million in actual cash money this past year. $8 mil only for the cap. Soooo that's $3 million lonelier. Sucks.....

    ok

You sure? I had read that they have to spend up to 90% of cap. They can't carry forward to next year. If they are under then they have to distribute the sum to players remaining on the team as bonuses.

Interesting, have nba agents always been open to new jobs at front office? I always thought they were to only focus on their clients.
