Sorry if already posted, Houston, along with SF, NYC and Washington D.C. advances. 4 cities as oppossed to three. YOu gotta wonder if Houston is the one on the bubble or not, but it is still cool news IMO. Cant find a link right now...ill keep looking
I had Rokkit beat by seconds (his new thread came up above mine, so I would assume that means mine was posted first) Nonetheless...the news conference basically said that 3 of the 4 chosen cities came out in the top 3 of every significant category and that all four were definitely the cream of the crop (or soemthing along those lines). btw...in order to reduce confusion...one of these threads should be closed so we can talk about it all in one thread. The point was just to get the info out, especially in light of the Astrodome thread. Story from Chron... http://www.click2houston.com/hou/news/stories/news-103043320011026-071046.html HOUSTON -- The United States Olympic Committee announced Friday that Houston is still one of the contenders to host the 2012 Summer Games. The USOC picked the Bayou City along with New York, San Francisco and Washington, D.C. The city's that were not chosen include Cincinnati, Dallas, Los Angeles and Tampa-Orlando. Some had believed that the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks may have swayed the committee to hold the games in New York or Washington, D.C. "What we're hearing from the USOC is that nobody has a leg up," Houston 2012 president Susan Bandy. "Nobody has an advantage because of that." Bandy heads the steering committee that has been planning for years to bring the games to Houston. "Our bid was one of the top couple of bids that were turned in and our site was probably the best in the country," Bandy said. "So we feel very strongly from everything we've heard that Houston technically is way up there." The USOC toured all of Bayou City's sports venues back in July. The nine-committee members range from former athletes to a logistics specialist. Issues that the group discussed with city leaders included security and the location of the Olympic Village, where participants would stay. The next decision for the USOC delegates will be to decide which U.S. city they will endorse to host the 2012 Games, which will be announced in October 2002.
Good idea. Will someone close mine please to save space? Thanks. gr8-1: Would they even consider something like joint hosting? It might be too far from 'tradition' for them to consider it...
