http://www.interbasket.net/news/3165/2009/08/03/greek-club-olympiakos-after-allen-iverson/ Olympiakos is offering Allen Iverson a $10 million contract over two years. This offseason, Olympiakos offered Nate Robinson a contract similar to the one they are offering Iverson.
Very smart move by the Olympiakos. AI still puts bums on seats. Doesnt seem like any NBA team is going to offer him what he wants in regards to playing time and AI is very capable of putting up 30-35ppg over there. He is still a deadly scorer. Matty101.
I actually think this would be a great move for Iverson at this point in his career. If he goes to Greece and plays as hard as he can, he'd be an icon in European basketball (possibly forever). There's no situation in the NBA where he's going to be a contributor on a solid team. This makes sense. He may be past his prime, but a year ago he was still considered very close to elite. Injuries haven't slowed him down like most players...it's ego and a very odd situation in Detroit with a team trying to blow it up with a coach in over his head.
If it is for money then go to Europe but is He really desperate for money? I believe He should just finish his career by playing in the NBA. In does not matter which team, the important thing is He is still in the NBA. Who know, a change in scenery might revive his career.
Maybe I'm looking at it the wrong way, but it would seem like he's selling out if he went to Greece. I thought the same when people were suggesting that Kobe should go overseas.
If AI takes this then it's not about bball and the love of the game anymore for him. He'll be the equivalent of Shaq appearing for the WWE in Greece, he'll put people in the seats, make some money and absorb a little culture but he'll be finished as far as the NBA goes.
Because he will no longer play basketball in Europe? That makes no sense to me whatsoever. You can still love the game and play the game in Europe. You can't compare European basketball to WWE.
Yeah, he still loves the game. He just feels he can add something to a team that no one thinks he can. I don't think it's about money either. He just really feels he's a starter on a good team.
