    Dreamworks going 'Old School' again

    By John Couture

What's the old saying about Hollywood and movies that make $50 million in profit solely from its theatrical release? Oh yeah, 'Greenlight the sequel!'

Well, Dreamworks is indeed planning to heed that wise advice with a second helping of Old School. While the movie is still in its infancy, stars Luke Wilson, Will Ferrell and Vince Vaughn are reportedly interested in reprising their roles as middle-aged men who decide to start a fraternity as a way to combat their own personal mid-life crises and to meet young women.

Old School 2 is tentatively penciled-in for a late 2004 release.

This is scary. It's not like the quality of a movie tends to improve with sequels. Anyone else think the first Old School was stupid enough?

(by the way, I wouldn't call the 30ish guys in the movie "middle-aged"... of course, by Hollywood standards where people are much younger than the real-life population, maybe they are)

Old School was the funniest movie I have ever seen. It wasn't stupid at all, but I don't think the second one can top the first.

I think I can count on one hand the number of comedy sequels that were even remotely as funny as the original

Yeah, American Pie 2 was pretty good. Beverly Hills Cop 2 was also good, as was Police Academy 2....

Hmmm, that's three....two more fingers to go!

Omega, Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls was not even CLOSE to the original. Jim Carrey overracted really badly, and they overdid his hair, also. The only funny part was when he was at that party tossing that old guy around. The first one was consistently funny all the way through...

Man, I didn't think that this one was even close to the original. It seemed like most of the jokes were just recycled from the first one.

One sequel that I can say is pretty much funnier than the original is Rush Hour 2. Of course, I feel a little hypocritical, because this one recycled a lot of the jokes from the first Rush Hour.

Trust me guys, I love dumb movies. I just didnt think Ace Ventura 2 was very good. I didnt really care for any of the Rush Hour movies either. Old School was pretty good and I love American Pie, Naked Gun movies, Road Trip, and Something About Mary.

I agree. I didn't really like the first or second ones, but the third was awesome.

Depends on what you would call a sequel. I've always found "Spaceballs" hilarious, but that was a definitive spoof.

scary movie 2 sucked huge ass. the first one was way better.

AP 2 was the best of the AP's. Goldmember was pretty funny, but it had no plot at all.

Space Balls is hilarious. I don't know how they got it rated PG

It always cracks me up when someone says they didn't like a movie like Old School or Goldmember because of the plot, or lack thereof. If you're going to watch a movie like this hoping to see a believeable plot, you're sorely mistaken. Enjoy them for what they are. Old School and Goldmember absolutely rock.
