Both were criticized for their 3 point shooting but that was based on the system they ran. as far as athleticism and quickness, there's no comparison. Maxwell was a legit starter while Rafer started off as a backup point guard.. ironically he was Sam Cassell's backup.
Maxwell. He's got to get some credit for having the crazy factor. It's always helpful to have one (but no more than one) crazy guy to freak out or irritate the other side.
didnt maxwell play SG? they both gave me heart attacks but maxwell pulled through more often and he defended the GOAT better than most. that alone should give him the edge. rafer had heart but he was no Vernon.
Now that we have this thread for brain surgeons, can we get another one started comparing Dream to Joe Barry Carroll? Maybe we can start another one comparing Robert Horry to Buck Johnson
MAD MAX !!!! I think we should have more Vernon Maxwell vs [player x] threads. He would kick all their asses.
Why? Because it's just been too long since a slew of nostalgic, masturbatory tinman threads hit the GARM, that's why!
At first glance people might criticize your comparisons here, tinman, but it's a pretty valid comparison. Both were streaky from behind the arc Both played pretty good defense (Rafer, IMO, is underrated by many of us on here for his defense) Both didn't back down when the situation presented itself (e.g. the game where Rafer wanted to take Rajon Rondo's head off, the game where Rafer went after Steve Nash in Phoenix, etc.) I think despite the similarities, going with Maxwell is the better choice simply because he was a better finisher around the bucket and shot better at the FT line.
Why are you comparing a guy who always brick a layup to a guy made some biggest shots in Rockets history?
there are people who believe based on statistics, that they are similar or even that rafer could be better if maxwell played during the modern era. my opinion is that maxwell with today's rockets and no hand checking would use his speed and athleticism and drive more to the hoop then chuck up 3s. everybody who played with dream with the exception of otis thorpe chucked up 3s.
tinman..you shouldn't give a damn for what they say...just ignore those fools.. Seriously..no need to post ridiculous threads like this.
This should be an episode of deadliest warrior, Alson with his trusty switchblade and Maxwell with his deadly dumbbell.
