Face it: In our 6-game streak we've let a few games get away. A loss like this was inevitable.

    Road...home.

As long as we get homecourt, there's a high chance the Rockets are making it into the second round.

Beyond that, I have to say it looks almost impossible as long as the Rockets can't get over their woes as a road team.

I'm a big time Rockets fan and it is so frustrating to cheer for them through the first 3 periods knowing that they will blow the lead in the forth. I watched the Bulls game and thought there was no way they could lose.....Then reality hit. Why do we suck so badly in the 4th period. I dont think they even gave it to Yao in the post during the entire 4th period.

You can't read too much into one game - either the cavs game or this one.

But the fact that we collapsed like we always do it a bit scary and suggests that our problems run a lot deeper than the players.

The problem is always fronting Yao. Teams will do this in the 4th quarter, and it will happen a lot in playoffs, and the referees are not going to call it for sure. I think the Rox's chance of passing the first round is low now. No matter what team Rox plays, a 15 point lead is not safe in the 4th quarter because of fronting.

See what happens when there's no playmaker in the lineup, collapses are bound to happen. The answer was supposed to be AB setting up guys but he's only in his 2nd yr. Today, he seemed hesistant to shoot or drive to the bucket, thus making guys like Artest shoot more, lucky for us they were going in until when they counted the most.

The Portland game could have gone the way it did today, we had a lead, 6 minutes in the fourth without a field goal and Yao was denied the ball. Let's face it, we only have one guy willing to take the "big" shot and we hope it goes in since it depends on how he falls, according to Bill and Matt.

    Go Rockets!!!

There is no excuse for blowing a lead like they had tonight. Especially against a team like the Bulls.

The Rockets offense has choked up in every game it's been close in the fourth quarter since the beginning of our mini-streak.

How the team performs in close games is the best indicator of what its made of, and what we can expect in the playoffs.

Same stuff. Need the PG to handle the offense better, need the SG to stop playing hero and get better shots.

There seems to be a pattern: the score is close in the first half, Rockets make a run in the 3rd, but lose steam in the 4th.

Here's the Rockets' outscoring differences in the 3rd followed by the 4th quarter

    vs. Kings +14, -6
    vs. Nets +3, +7
    vs. Mavericks +17, -3
    vs. Bobcats +15, +4
    vs. Blazers +8, -5
    vs. Cavaliers +13, +1
    vs. Bulls +14, -20
    AVG +12, -3

I thought changing the font would give the text mono spacing so I could organize it nicer but oh well.

Point is, Rockets just don't play with the same intensity as they do in the 3rd quarter. Simple as that.

what can be that consistent big drop off between 3rd and 4th quarter for so many years, under so many coaches and 100 combinations of players?

    Answer: Yao's stamina.

    read my sig.

when our opps front yao, AB need learn to pass the ball to another side, then yao will stand between defender and basket

AB is still like a rookie , way to go

    Call what?

You're allowed to front players, we have to find a way to get him the ball.

Teams start fronting Yao and we are clueless as to what to do when this happens.

Landry will help us out though, I expect a lot to change when he comes back.

I'd agree, but this team has been blowing 4th qtr leads since well before Yao arrived. This leaves either Les Alexander or the ghost of Calvin Murphy as the cause.

I think that these fourth quarter collapses is just a case of the Rockets building a lead, and then just trying to protect it.

Protecting leads is a difficult thing to do in the league--always has been, and it always will be.
