Old Kids Movie Help

    I saw this kid's movie in the early 90s and can't remember the name of it. I don't even remember if it was any good or what the plot was.

    All I know is that the mysterious creatures that these kids discover ride a rainbow or something to their homeland and at the end of the movie they leave forever or something.

    I know it's not much help, but if anyone can help me I'd appreciate it. I don't want to see it again, but for some reason it has been KILLING me trying to remember this movie.

    Nope, significantly lower budget than that.

    The creatures they find might be leprechauns or something, I can't remember. They were small though I think.
