Does anyone have a good old-fashioned and/or margarita recipe? Preferably one that isn't super sugary as I don't need any help in consuming unhealthy ****. I would prefer them to be relatively simple, but also legit... as in, no marg recipes that involve orange juice, please. And by "good" I just mean good - it doesn't have to be the world's best old-fashioned or margarita.
Squeeze a bag of Key Limes and a few oranges, then just mix that mixture into a shaker with the alcohol and drink up. I make these a few times a year, the biggest time sink is manually squeezing the limes. 2 ounces Key Lime Juice ▢1 ½ ounces Agave ▢2 ounces Tequila ▢2 ounces grand marnier
I like to get the Casa Amigos brand reposado or anejo (but a few other brands are fine also) - NEVER silver/blanco. NEVER. Add lime. Sometimes grapefruit, fresh orange and/or jalapeno without too many seeds. THEN. Instead of using orange juice or triple sec. I use... a splash of... PIMM'S. Ultimately it might be more of a tequila based cocktail than a true margarita, but it goes hardttt. The only time I enjoy silver/blanco tequila is... with COFFEE. I WISH I could make a good old fashioned, but for me, I've learned to just order those if I'm in the mood. I cant replicate it at home. Don't have the patience to perfect that one. The margarita I just kind of stumbled upon... the ingredients sounded right in my head.
I was GONNA say. I like the one at Hearsay. Anvil has/had some kind of relationship to them I'm pretty sure. Either way. You always have GOOD taste. I DID NOTICE you label it Westheimer and not MONTROSE. Lulz.
lol you got a keen eye...guess I could have said IN MONTROSE.........ON WESTHEIMER. same same man. I tried The Ready Room and they were solid too. Tongue Cut Sparrow is good.
Orange juice definitely helps with the acidity of a margarita. A buddy of mine does tequilla-hot sauce shots. You could try that lol
As Ziggy mentioned, you can trick out margaritas with a whole bunch of stuff, it's hard to screw up (add more tequila if it's too fruity or sweet, add a little agave or simple syrup if it's too tart). If you want some summertime margarita-adjacent beverages, you can't go wrong with the Paloma, Ranch Water, Classic Daquiri, Whiskey Smash, Mojito... Classic tiki drinks are also awesome: zombie, mai tai, etc... Do use the old recipes and not the modern ones, unless you really like sugar.
My go to: 2 mezcal (el buho) 1 fresh lime juice .5 Cointreau Addendums as mood calls for… (usually a few drops of hot sauce and a smidge of maple syrup)
