The slow summer + I hate studying + rap threads = an old memory popped into my mind. I remember reading a Sports Illustrated article back in 94 or 95 and there was this little mention of Akeem the Dream having a rap record. I've asked people here and there about it and no one has ever heard of it. This is like the first time it has popped into my mind since a few years ago. And now that the internet is superbadass....I found it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Download the song:

I can't believe no one has ever posted this before, though maybe it has happened and I just missed it. It took me a while to find because the record is so vintage. I found info on it only on foreign websites dedicated to "80's black music" and "80's dance music".

    This is so cool.

Since those were the early days before he added the H to his name, would I even be able to understand him? :D

I thought Hakeem was going to be the one rapping. Good thing he wasn't, although I never heard him rap. He did say a few things in the song right? Or was that the other guy?

Akeem did rap very briefly (and badly) in the infamous "Superbowl Shuffle"-ish song they did in 1986. ("Me...Akeem, pass, block...dunk") I don't know if they ever released the record, but a video definitely existed, and was played on the local broadcast a couple of times.

I emailed some website guys who had his info, and no luck. I mean, wouldn't it be hilarious to own this vinyl? Everywhere I look, it just seems that it is too rare. If anyone can get a hold of this, please tell me how.
