I just heard this was official on my local radio station. Can anyone confirm this? Giving up Magloire seems like a lot for Mason. I hope there is more involved. This makes me think the Hornets have no intentio of going back to New Orleans, as Mason will be a huge draw here. But, then again, I am a big conspiracy theorist.

has magloire had injury problems recently? otherwise this is a r****ded trade for the Hornets. Also, are they planning on playing either Magloire or Bogut at the four spot?

Sounds like a steal for the Bucks. As always, decent big men are harder to find than swingmen. I wonder what they are going to do about Bogut though. He'll get abused by the quicker PFs in the league. And I don't see Magloire handling them that well either.

I was wondering about Bogut too. I woudl suspect that he and Magloire will rotate interchangabley with Gadzuric at the 4/5.

If it's true, I love this trade because I'm a bandwagon Bucks fan because of T.J.

Ok, just heard the official details, it's:

    Magloire

    for

    Mason, conditional 1st, and Cash.

That's a lot to give up, but this team is going to get up and down the floor. Mason will replace Boki in the starting lineup for a lineup of:

    Chris Paul
    J.R. Smith
    D. Mason
    PJ Brown
    Chris Andersen, Maciej Lampe

The Milwaukee Bucks continued to aggressively reshape their roster Wednesday by beating out several teams to acquire New Orleans/Oklahoma City center Jamaal Magloire, according to NBA front-office sources.

In a trade that will be announced later Wednesday, Milwaukee has agreed to send swingman Desmond Mason, its 2006 first-round pick and cash considerations to the Hornets for Magloire, an East All-Star in 2004.

The Bucks, according to sources, felt they needed a more physical presence on their front line to aid the development of No. 1 overall pick Andrew Bogut and the recently re-signed Dan Gadzuric.

Given Milwaukee's logjam of swingmen after retaining Michael Redd, trading for Jiri Welsch and signing Bobby Simmons, a trade involving Mason between now and the February deadline was somewhat inevitable. This one gives the Bucks an opportunity to play Magloire and Bogut together, with Simmons starting at the other forward spot. The Bucks also have Gadzuric and Joe Smith in what suddenly looks like a well-rounded frontcourt rotation.

The Hornets have been shopping Magloire for months as part of their own makeover, which accelerated in February when Baron Davis, another former All-Star, was dealt to Golden State.

Coach Byron Scott denied earlier this week that Magloire was available, but the Hornets rebuilding around the embryonic backcourt of Chris Paul and J.R. Smith and displaced from its home base in New Orleans for at least a season - seized the chance to add another 2006 first-rounder to their own and an athletic swingman with ties to the team's new home state.

Mason, entering his sixth season out of Oklahoma State, carries a career scoring average of 12.9 points per game and averaged a career-best 17.2 points last season.

Magloire played only 23 games in 2004-05 because of a fractured ring finger but averaged 13.6 points and 10.3 rebounds in the previous season. The five-year veteran's 19 points in the 2004 All-Star Game led the East.

I heard that Lampe was looking really good in the pre-season games, and Magloire was becoming enough of a malcontent that he was going to go eventually, but wow.

For Desmond Mason, a #1 (probably the #8-10 pick), and cash? Big guys in this league are a premium, and the cardinal rule is to never trade big for small.

This gives the Hornets the chance to be a more entertaining team, with Paul, Smith and Mason running the breaks. Selling tickets is probably more important than winning games for them at this point, anyway.

Bucks' frontcourt has been in a world of hurt lately. Joe Smith and Gadzuric have been hurt, and they've even resorted to starting Simmons at PF. Needless to say, they've been getting embarrased on the boards. Bogut has been okay, but hasn't been producing much offensively. My guess is that they'll try a twin towers experiment.

Both players are signed for two years (including this one), making approximately $8 mill.

The Hornets may break the NBA record of the worst record in a season after this trade. So is Anderson gonna be their starting center?

they may, but they will probly also break the record for best attendance for a horrible team. Mason will be a big draw here since he was a star at OSU, and people are already turning out in droves just for preseason games.

not that its a good trade though......the team wont survive in oklahoma city longer than 2 years at this rate....nobody likes to go see losers play year in and year out.

    Magloire traded for DesMason

    -------------
The Bucks have agreed to trade swingman Desmond Mason, it's 2006 first-round pick and cash to the Hornets for center Jamaal Magloire, according to ESPN. The trade will be announced later today and it gives the Bucks the physical post presence they felt they lacked.

    thoughts?

i think it improves the Bucks chances quite a bit.

so No.1 pick will be on the bench or play PF?
too much for Magloire, he is a solid player but overrated.

starting lineup for Bucks after trade:
    PG:TJ Ford
    SG:Redd
    SF:Simmons
    PF:Bogut
    C:Magloire

    can this team make playoffs?

for the longterm - this was a good move for the hornets. mason gives them another thrasher to go along with JR Smith...Boki now comes off the bench, where he should be - and Andersen can hold the C spot for excitement until next year. They'll be a young fun team - with TWO first rounders next year...quite possibly both in the lottery.

I don't get it. I mean, I'm sure Bogut can play power forward, but that doesn't mean it's a good idea. The Bucks now have 3 quality centers.

You gotta think they'll be making a pitch to get a true 4 by the trade deadline. Guess they just figured it would be easier to pawn off a center than a swingman.

Bucks could, and should, challenge for a play-off invitation. The pick is more likely a teen pick.

Better balanced roster for Milw and a good player for NOK. Advantage: Milwaukee.

the hornets will definitely be flying up and down the court with paul, smith, and mason. but finding a very good all-around C isn't very easy, i think they may regret this one if they can't find a big man in the draft.

this is pretty good for the bucks considering mason wasn't going to be finding a lot of minutes with the simmons signing. upfront they are pretty good with magloire and bogut. but they are both centers, it'll be interesting to see how that works.

Hornets did this trade to sell tickets. Desmond Mason is from Oklahoma State and thats where they will play. Mason, Paul, and Smith should be fun to watch.
