Something is screwy here. People wonder why I don't trust our government? In the 60s and 70s our government at the highest levels authorized the murder of American citizens abroad by foreign governments. That was 30+ years ago depending on the specific event. They have refined their methods since then. I fear a government that believes it has a sovereign right to avoid answering to the people.
I saw the tape and the first thing that came to mind was when the government "releases" documents and they look like this: Gee, thanks. That sheds so much more light on the subject.
It'd be one thing for the government to say the tapes were intentionally redacted, it's quite another to provide a vague and lame excuse for why the tapes are blank. I don't think there was some government consipiracy in the attack. So, what interest could they have in hiding evidence?
Perhaps that the case they had against mcveigh and nichols was not quite as clear-cut or simple as it appeared to be.
John Doe #2... the conspiracy theorists should go crazy with this news and I really don't blame them if the article is accurate.
These allegations are coming from a nutbag with his own agenda, so consider the source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kenneth_Trentadue
Yeah, it's in the article I posted. Hard to deny that the video edits are weird though. I don't really have any sort of inclination or whatever. I agree with Juan that I don't think it's conspiracy regarding the bombing, which (IMO) would make me think that's it's something to do with the trial (evidence?). I don't know enough to make any sort of judgement - thus my lack of commentary on the article.
That link makes Trentadue's death sound pretty suspicious too: Oklahoma County District Attorney Bob Macy and federal officials determined that Trentadue had committed suicide by hanging himself. Officials tried to obtain the permission of Trentadue's family to cremate the body, but the family declined, since they found the claims of suicide suspicious. The government then performed an autopsy on Trentadue, but did not notify the family.[2] When the family received the body from the prison authorities, it was covered in wounds, cuts, and bruises, leading the family to believe Trentadue had been tortured and beaten before his death. Trentadue had sustained three heavy blows to the head, and his throat had been cut; prison authorities claimed the wounds were self-inflicted.[1] The day after Trentadue's death, the state medical examiner's lead investigator filed a complaint reporting irregularities in the investigation of Trentadue's death: the coroner was at first not permitted into the cell where Trentadue had died, and the cell itself was washed out before any investigation could be performed.[2] The complaint went on to state that, although the exact cause of death could not be determined, the claim that Trentadue had committed suicide was not consistent with the medical examiner's findings, and Trentadue appeared to have been tortured.[3]
Classic coincidence theory stirred up by radical racist Obama haters. The government loves you all and would never lie to protect its interests.
Except McVeigh admitted to the attack after his conviction. There isn't much doubt that they got the right guy.
So then, the contention would be that there was another conspirator that the government wanted to protect from prosecution, but that McVeigh -- who was at war with the government -- also would not want to rat out in his many writings and communications after his trial, even though he was to be put to death? Someone smarter than me is going to have to thread that needle. Yeah, I had come back to this thread to see what Red Chocolate would have to say on it, and he did not disappoint! I've got no clue what his post even means.
I think the general conspiracy idea that I've heard in the past is that there was more involved, but maybe the gov't didn't know who/how many/etc, and wanted to blame it on one person to create calm and move forward. In that scenario, there's no reason McVeigh would give up the names of his friends/partners who would continue on with his anti-gov't agenda. Not saying I agree, but that's the theory that I've heard in the past. On this particular case, I'd be curious to hear the whole "all the cameras suddenly went out for those few seconds because they all ran out of tape" directly from the FBI, or alternatively, if/why those tapes really are blank from an FBI spokesperson rather than 2nd or 3rd hand.
