Who do you wish the Democratic Party had nominated to take on Bush?

If Howard Dean didn't screw up he could have run a better campaign. You absolutely knew where he stood on the issues and that was the biggest downfall for Kerry.

I thought Charles was a Republican?

Why do people that lost in prior elections so rarely run again? Nixon is the only one that I can think of.

    Al Gore

If he had started campaigning in 2001 I really think he would have had a shot.

    (1) Looking at the conservative trend our nation seems to be taking, I wonder if the dems should have been looking for a pro-war candidate even if it turned off their base. Even a turned off democratic base was going to vote for Satan over Bush so there would have been debate and squabble over the nomination, but I still think the democratic base would have rallied around the choice and maybe some of the undecideds (if they exist) would have swayed toward the democratic ticket. Lieberman comes to mind.

    (2) The south seems to have ever increasing power in deciding these elections so I think there's something to be said for the theory that only a democrat from the south in the Bill Clinton, Jimmy Carter, and LBJ mode can win the White House. After the failures of Kerry and Dukakis from Massachusetts and Mondale from Minnesota, the democratic party needs to give serious consideration to not nominating a candidate from these regions in our current environment.

Damn, I think you're right.... hmmm how about Ed Rendell or Bill Richardson? Any Dems out there think either one would have been a better choice?

I think the Dems were banking on the fact that Kerry would win because he's a veteran and Bush is not.

How about daughter Eleanor? Wasn't she rumored to be one of Clinton's flings?

The only serious replies so far are Kerry, Clinton, Gore and Henry Rollins (whoever that is).

If the Democrats would ever choose candidates that represent the American people better than the Elite, they would probably run away with it all. Too stupid , I guess.

The leadership of both parties is failing America-- the Republicans just seem to do it less so.
