So, I'm out for a bike ride this morning and I find a puppy. She follows me all the way home. Someone clearly abandonded her because she has no collar and was limping on her front right leg - not badly, but noticably.

She is no more than 6 months - still has her baby teeth - and is as sweet as she can be. She already comes when called and had no problems on a leash. She only barked when I left her in my office alone and laid down in my truck all the way to the vet where she is now. She is VERY docile and didn't have any problems dealing with the other dogs at the vet.

She looks like a mix between some type of bull and a yellow lab. She has the body of a yellow lab and the coloring with that square head you see on bulldogs and pit bulls.

We are getting her shots, having her leg checked and having her checked for heart worms at our vet. We will foster her until she is adopted either through CAPS, Special Pals or an individual. We have so many cats, a dog is out of the question.

If anyone is interested, you can reply to this thread or email me at jeffb@clutchfans.net. Please note that we want someone who is going to provide her a very good home, so only email if you are really serious and really want her.

If only we hadn't just rescued one. Good luck finding a taker, the dog sounds great!

If you brought the puppy up in an environment dominated by cats, then I'm sure it would adapt and have no problems with cats in the future. You should try bringing the puppy in your cat-infested environment and see what happens. :)

It's not a question of the puppy adapting. I'm sure she could. But, she is going to be a large dog and we live in a small house with a BUNCH of cats. We actually had started to reduce the poupluation (not by choice, but by nature :( ), so we don't want to start adding again. :)

I probably can do that tonight. She's at the vet right now and may spend the night there while she is being treated. If not tonight, then tomorrow.

I love animals and wish I could help, but I already have a zoo and just can't take on any more. I couldn't even tell my wife about this or she'd be over to your house this afternoon to pick her up!

Good luck finding her a new, happy home Jeff.

It's awfully good of you to take on the expense and hassle of shots, etc. just to give her away.

Thanks, guys. It is pretty much the norm around here. My wife and I often say that we have a giant sign on the front of our house only animals can see that says "SUCKER!!!"

Asked the wife. No go. She said no "Bull" around the kids. We also have a large chocolate lab, but he is all lab. Sorry, man.

Jeff, that was very kind of you to take in the puppy. I'm sure CAP should have no problem finding a home for her.

My fiance has nixed getting a dog until early next year (want's us to break in our new house before a puppy takes over). Otherwise, I'd be all over this. Good luck in finding her a good home.

How can you be sure it was abandoned? A lot of people don't have collars on their dogs.

This one was left at the HEB on 11th near Yale. She was wandering around in the parking lot and followed a woman back to her office that was a block away. I asked her and she said that the dog had been in the parking lot all morning and followed her back to her office, but she didn't belong to her.

She clearly hadn't eaten in a couple days and drank probably 5 bowls of water when I got her home. Plus, with that limp she had, I doubt anyone was caring for her.

In this area, there are quite a few strays. My wife and I have probably taken in and adopted 70 or 80 cats and dogs over the past 5 years and that is on top of the one's we've kept. Unfortunately, a lot of animals get abandoned around here.

I soooo wish I could, but I can't afford the $475 pet deposit for an apartment I haven't moved into yet. :(

I have 2 Pit Bulls and they are great dogs. Don't believe the hype about them, any dog can be bad when crap people get them so they can look tough on the street, train to fight and abuse them.

People like that have ruined Pit Bulls for everyone who are responsible owners. It makes me so freaking angry my head wants to explode.

Before I rant on here is a link to educate

    http://www.badrap.org/rescue/myths.cfm

In a recent study of 122 dog breeds by the American Temperament Testing Society (ATT), pit bulls achieved a passing rate of 83.9%. That's as good or better than beagles ... 78.2%, and golden retrievers ... 83.2%. How did your favorite breed do? See for yourself: ATTS.org

I'm glad you posted that. Animals have individual personalities and some can be agressive even as juvenilles, but virtually ALL are trainable and no one breed is more or less agressive. I've known people with Rotweillers, pit bulls, Doberman's, etc. who had ZERO problems at all. In fact, there is a rottie around the corner from us our neighbor's 8 and 6 year-olds call "lover boy" because he is so sweet.

Yep, "mean" dog breeds are mean because of the idiots who raise them to be that way. I remember the 150 pound Rottweiler named Rocky who was able to lick me on the face by putting his paws on my shoulders and then ran terrified from the cat who came out to chase him back to the barn. Freaking hilarious.

On the same note, if anyone wants a very fat cat who is extremely lazy and rarely ventures more than 20 feet from the food dish, one of the neighbors moved out without her and it turns out that my son may be allergic (rash since the cat moved in). EDIT: She will have to go to the SPCA on Friday, I hate to do it, but my son's welfare has to come first.

Jeff, you are describing our dog, Ellie. The love of our life! She is a Staffordshire Terrier (they sort of look like Pit Bulls...big jaws, sout chests)/ Labrador cross. She looks like she could be mean, but she is the sweetest, most loving creature on earth. Looks can be deceiving. If I weren't 6,000 miles away I would take that dog in a heartbeat.

Ok, spoke with the vet and pup is appx. 6 months old and she does have a fracture in her leg. :( The vet said it is healing but they want to put a splint on it for a couple weeks to make sure it heals correctly. She does not have heartworms and is being treated for some hookworms that are not serious. She also got all her vaccinations.

We will happily pay for her vet bills for this, but she still needs a good home!!! :D
