Don't get me wrong, I am NOT a Rafer lover by any means, BUT what does this trade today accomplish for us?

If you wanted Brooks to start fine, but keep Rafer on the bench as the backup PG. I'd rather have Rafer as our backup PG than some young kid like Lowry with no experience.

It doesn't save us any money. Might actually COST us money because Rafer would have come off the books after next season.

We gain two (maybe four) scrubs that will either be cut or waste away on our bench.

I have LOVED all of Morey's moves up until this one. I just don't get it...

Who are we getting for the future in this deal?

Kyle Lowry can't even get off the Grizzlies bench...

And the Grizzlies got a 1st round pick. Not us.

At this point I would be happy to get Lowry, looks like we are dumping Rafer for nothing.

Adelman didn't have the stones to tell Rafer he isn't starting.

I wish we had a coach with some swingers.

Im still scratching my head too. We traded an NBA starting PG, who is could still be a quality back up PG for a Memphis bench warmer. I'm stumped.

It is all about the money I think, rockets will get more salary space in summer.

I guess our focus went from championship to developing young players.

this deal ALONE does not make a lot of sense, imo, because it doesn't make our team better either immediately or for the long run.

I'm wondering what just happened too. Tmac is out....now Rafer is gone. I hope Brooks and Lowry are enough for a playoff run. This dosent seem like a basketball move. We'll have to wait till tomorrow to see how this works.

I think everyone forgets Alston is the oldest of the rockets’ core players. He’s 32, everyone else is under 30. They’re not rebuilding, but rather shifting the window of opportunity, before it started with the last few years, but now its about the next 4-5. Rafer at 36, 37, running this team?? No way, or any team for that matter. this is the best time to make that tweak, rather than a year or two from now when, if healthy, they could be in the midst of championship or deep playoff runs. when you consider his age and his weakness, it’s a no brainer.

also, lowry didn't get off the bench because memphis inexplicably kept acquiring point guards, even conley was on the bench, really they all were because the grizz wouldn't give just one all the time and starting spot, but that's not a knock on Lowry.

You negate the positives of starting Brooks if Rafer is still on the bench. The whole point is to make Brooks feel he owns the spot. If an unhappy Rafer Alston (and he WOULD be unhappy if he got demoted, trust me) was behind him, Brooks would still be playing scared. That's also something that could hurt team chemistry.

If the Rockets truly believe Brooks is the answer for their starting PG, it's best to move Rafer for another backup PG and some other pieces. That's what they did.

We should get the pick. Alston is the best player of all the players involved.

Rockets want to take a good look at Aaron Brooks.

Cook's 3.5$ million contract will be up after this season, so that is probably why he was included.

How does anyone know that this guy can't play? Jesus christ people act like the sky is falling on a team that wasn't going out of the 2nd round of the playoffs any way.

First off starting Brooks won't be like a big down grade from Raefor any way. It really won't be at all, so Brooks will be starting and Lowry will be a damn good back up just like Brooks already was. And Lowry can play defense which is what the Rockets need more of any way. Anyone remember what Williams did to the Rockets in the playoffs the past two years. The guy is like 10 years younger so he probably has a higher ceiling in the future and we saved more money now.

Will it be a good move? I'm not sure, but I can easily see the rationality behind it. I trust in Morey. He has earned it and has shown time and time again that he knows what he is doing.
