I just received a new hard drive for my laptop. I know where it goes, but I don't have the tools to install it properly. Also, will I need to download new hardware onto the computer? ie. I assume it will lose any saved info. on the computer, but will installing a new hard drive also lose all the programs that were on there, as well?

    Lil help?

Since its a brand new hard drive, yes you would have to reinstall whatever software you need/want on the new drive. Most laptops come with a restore CD so you may want to use that so you can get the Operating System and whatever drivers your laptop needs.

    any invites?

Anyways, what happened to your old drive? If it still accessible, back up any data that you would need.

Otherwise a new hard drive means a new beginning. You will have to load some operating system on it. The best way to do this is use the Restore CD that came with your laptop. It will have a copy of your original OS and the drivers that are needed for the hardware for your laptop. You will then have to load any software/programs that you had before so dig out those CD's as well

As far as tools, you should only need a screwdriver or two.

    You'll probably need...

    Screwdriver
OS disc (Windows XP/Vista most likely)
CD Key (probably on the bottom of your laptop on a Windows serial number sticker)
    45 minutes

As for all of your programs/pictures/music/videos, they're all on your old hard drive.
