I really wish search was up now, I need an oil changed and don't feel like getting ripped off at the dealership. I don't really have time to change the oil myself right now, so i need a good place around Houston for my acura, preferably around westheimer. Thanks guys.
I have an acura and I take mine to walmart. Just get the one that is one step up above the entry level one. I think it is 18.99 before tax for Penzoil. My dad used to own a Auto Shop. For years he said if you are not putting in synthetic or a blend, oil is oil. Make sure you do it every 3,000 miles and you will be fine. My acura says to change it every 7,500 miles. Dad's response, "Why would you want the same oil sitting in your car for that long." I wanted to switch to synthetic, same response, "Why would you want the same oil sitting in your car that long?"
Where ever you take it, check the dipstick right afterwards. Sometimes the quick oil change places use a high pressure hose to put the oil in and it doesn't fill all the way up. I used to go to a place in The Heights and I would check the dipstick right afterwards only to find that I needed to put another couple of quarts in.
I'm done with dealers too, I hate them so much. I'm just a lil scared a random shop will screw up my rotary in my rx8. probably just paranoid. I'm interested in a good shop as well.
Walmart techs are screw-ups. I had several problems with them. One time they didn't tighten the oil bolt firmly so it was leaking. Every time they always spill oil and it burns and smells.
Yeah, why not? My car says every 10K miles and it uses synthetic. Why would I want to change it more frequently than recommended if the system and oil is designed to last longer?
synthetic oil is not your normal oil. if you use synthetic and change your oil every 3000 miles, you're just wasting money. synthetic can last twice as long. i don't change mine until 7,500-8000 miles...depending on how i've been driving it.
I drive a 2006 hot orange mini cooper and i don't have to change that baby every 10k miles..... and it's free at the dealer..... for 3 yrs........ yeeeehawwww.....
I have a great mechanic near my house on the SW side, just outside the loop. I'm actually taking my car there Friday for an oil change and because the "check engine" light came on a couple of days ago. PM me if you want their name and number. They're do great work at a reasonable price.
Wherever you decide to take it make sure the mechanics are ASE certified. I don't think Wal-Mart's are but I could be wrong.
You get the same kind of work at a lot of places. It is hard to find a guy who takes oil changes serioulsy whenthey only make 8 buck an hour
His philosophy on cars is that the oil change is the life blood of the car. It is relatively cheap and can be done in a half hour to 1 hour depending on where you go. He sees to many people's cars messed up because the oil was way to old or so little was left there was irreparable engine damage. I mean that is just his opinion. Note my dad is 64 years old and has much more leisure time than most of us do. I don't do my Acura ever 7,500 but I get to it about every 5K or so. My maxima says 3K so I do it every 3K.
I don't' know but it should include a BJ for that price. My friend said his wipers on his CLK500 are over 80 or a hundred also.
for newer cars (especially with sythetic)... 3,000 is WAY to soon to be changing your oil. it's wasteful and costs you more money. the lube shops say 3,000 to get their money. trust me.
