Assume I know nothing of oil (which I really don't). This is a pretty basic question/concept.

Where are we currently restricted from drilling oil? If we were to drill there, how much oil do they estimate to be in those locations? What impact would it have on the current oil and gas market?

If it's easier to post a link or two pointing me in a direction so that I can educate myself that is cool too. I don't mind reading.

May want to check where there is a war. Wherever there is a war there is sure to be oil.

I spoke to a few people who do deepwater drilling who just received permits that didn't get issued during the temporary moratorium in the last week. So where "we" drilled last month and next month might not be the same.

There is no danger of running out of oil anytime soon. The problem is that new deposits are being found in places where it is much more difficult and expensive to extract (or prohibited due to environmental concerns).
