It appears that the speechwriter who wrote the "axis of evil" line was … Canadian! He is the son of a highly respected Canadian journalist Barbara Frum, no less. http://cbc.ca/cgi-bin/templates/view.cgi?category=Canada&story=/news/2002/02/26/frum020226 She must be rolling in her grave. Ahh, the sorrow of a child gone astray…
Glynch: Everyone should be embarrassed once in a while. It's good for the blood, I hear. Of course, our President embarrasses me far too often . And the last one did, too. And the one before that. And the one before that was really terrible. Why can't we have another Woodrow Wilson? Alas... Canadians have it good. At least, when their leaders make mistakes... well, if a tree falls in the middle of a forest, and nobody is there to hear it, does it still make a sound ?
haven: you're about to enter law school, correct? So that makes you, I'm guessing, about 22. My question is, how were Reagan and Bush embarassing you when you were probably eight years old when Reagan left office, and twelve when Bush left office? Is it safe to say that you were embarassed by different things than the average boy growing up? Were you inside watching the news when the rest of the other kids were out playing?
TheFreak: Being embarrassed isn't that difficult retrospectively. And let's face it, Bush vomiting when in conference with other leaders was easy enough for anyone to understand. On another note, why do you enjoy being personally insulting when I'm not to you? There was absolutely no point to any of that. Does attempting to make haven feel bad have some special, personal significance to you? You oftne seem to take special care to do so at every potential opportunity. If you absolutely must know, I had extremely political parents. While I wouldn't say I followed politics extremely closely, I was probably more aware than most kids. It would have been impossible not to be, in my house. My mom was something of extremely left of center, not quite radical. My dad was more libertarian than anything else. So we had some interesting in-house debates.
Gee haven, sorry you feel insulted by that. Guess I should've included a smilie, like this . I suppose I could've left off the last sentence...I was just wondering why something like that would embarass you, that's all. You need to be able to take a little more than that if you're going to be moving down here. Look at all the smilies you're making me use!
Ah, I don't get my feelings hurt all that easily. My ego's probably too large for that . I do get insulted too easily. Ah, I probably wasn't really old enough to know much about what was going on with Reagan. But watching tapes of him during his second administration is terrible . You may or may not think the "evil empires" stuff was silly... but his Alsheimers was really beginning to effect him by the second. While you can't fault a person for getting a disease, I think one Whitehouse doctor recently wrote about how he wasn't even really competent for part of that term. Bush should probably have been a two-termer, after all .
