This will probably not mean much to anyone but myself, and maybe RocketmanTex Two of the things I dearly love in this world are Blues music and the Galveston Mardi Gras festivals (don't know why....I know they're nothing like New Orleans.....I just ALWAYS have a load of fun there). And my favorite living blues artist is Buddy Guy. My favorite event at Mardi gras is the Grand Momus Parade where I always leave with a heavy neck full of plastic beads and serious buzz. Saturday, March 1,2003 21st St. and Strand 11am - 1pm Wilford Chevis & the Texas Zydeco Band 1:30 - 3pm Susan Tedeschi 4 - 5:30pm Buddy Guy 5:50 - 7:30pm Momus Parade I can't friggen WAIT!
We're playing on February 22, from 11 AM - 1 PM. I remember that last year we played the same day as B.B. King but on different stages. We tried to get backstage with our passes but they didn't have some special sticker for the Main stage. This year we're playing on the main stage so that won't be a problem. I'm gonna get back there to watch Kool and the Gang and Ming Fishtrap.
I met Wilfred one night when he was playing at Pappadeaux in Kemah. Very approachable and an extremely nice guy. And, he and his band play GREAT zydeco music. Nothing beats great zydeco music, a flavorful adult beverage and eating good fried shrimp!
The line up really pales to the one a couple of years ago that had the Rev. Horton Heat one night then Georgle Clinton the next. That was a party.
Depends on what ya like, I guess. I've never seen Susan Tedeschi before, and I'm really looking forward to her.
Susan Tedeschi's husband, Derek Trucks (Derek Trucks Band, Allman Brothers) is playing at the Engine Room on Thursday the 21st....just a little FYI.
Thats awesome Pole. All the old Blues legends (not many left) should not be missed by any serious Blues fan whenever the chance to see them comes around.
I love the blues, but I hated buddy guy the last time I saw him. All he does now is play little snippets of songs and his rig is really lame.. the backup band carries the set and his only gimmick now is where he walks around whatever venue with his wireless setup.
I have a video of Buddy Guy and Albert Collins playing at Buddy's "Legends" club in Chicago. Albert used to walk all over the place whenever he played (and he wasn't wireless either). Perhaps Buddy is paying tribute to Albert.
