Boy, talk about saying something insensitive. At least he apologized.... Former Irish back Pinkett apologizes for remark Notre Dame football radio analyst Allen Pinkett apologized for a gaffe made over the airwaves during the first half of Saturday's game against Pittsburgh. A Pittsburgh receiver fell down with no one near him. On the air, Pinkett said it looked as if the player had been felled by a sniper. "In light of what's happening on the East Coast, it was the wrong thing to say," Pinkett told the Chicago Tribune, referring to recent incidents in which eight people have been shot dead in the Maryland and Virginia suburbs of Washington since Oct. 2. Pinkett is a native of the Virginia suburbs. "My mom still lives there," he told the Tribune. "My mom, my sister, my brother, my whole family. It was a bad choice of words." Pinkett, a former star running back for the Fighting Irish, explained that the term "felled by a sniper" is often used while football players and coaches watch film, to describe a player falling without being tackled. "I knew when it came out of my mouth that it wasn't going to sound right," he told the Tribune. I wonder how many people called and complained about that remark.
I've met Pinkett and his wife on several occassions, while working in the Village at Kahn's deli during college. He is a very soft-spoken person and his wife is just the best...when she gets involved in a cause, she puts 100% behind it. Pinkett is a quiet man, and it took me making several of Kahn's Worlds Greatest combo Reuben's and serving them in a "allow him his space" manner before our first conversations. And he always went out of his way to say "Hi" to me after that. He struck me as the guy who just wants to walk behind is incredibly social wife and just smile and follow her while ordering a reuben. That's me. I smile in the background while eating my favorite food.
I've heard the phrase, "like he was felled by a sniper" before in reference to players simply falling down. It seems like an innocent mistake.
Now, if Pinkett said that the receiver "burned his man like a nightclub in Bali" he might have gone too far.
Which losers actually complained about it? Mistakes happen, dammit. I hope the only people who complained, were the ones who have never said anything bad on accident.
Seems like an honest mistake. Idiots who actually seriously complain about these sort of things believe they are perfect I guess?
I didn't read about any people complaining. It was an innocent mistake and he apologized because of what's been going on recently. It's a non issue. Actually, I don't think it even qualifies as a mistake. It had nothing to do with what's going on in Maryland and is a common term.
dam thas like saying he fell like a twin tower!! THATS messed up i dont believe what hes saying about football coaches in video room?? what you all think?
So, when a running back leaps into the end zone from the one yard line, is it OK to say, "He leapt over the defense like somebody trying to jump over the Great Wall of China on a bicycle!"?
My business partner knows Allen Pinkett and speaks very well of him...says he's one of the nicest guys he's ever met...I assume this is an honest mistake.
