The Who, live at the Toyota Center in Houston Texas. The Pretenders will be the opening act. YEEHAW!!!!
Yeah, kind of hard to call them The Who with Keith and John both gone. I would still love to see them though. I re-watched their performance at the Concert for New York the other day. Watching all those FDNY guys jump up and down while singing the words to Baba O'Reilly just a few months after seeing their friends die on 9/11 literally sent chills down my spine. They blew the ROOF off of MSG that night! Once of the most amazing performances I've ever seen. On the other hand, I've never been a big fan of The Pretenders....
I hear ya, but I've just got to see them. Pino Palladino, Zak Starkey & Rabbit Bundrick rounding it out makes for a nice band. The performance they put on at the Woodlands in 2000 gave me the shivers. They were balls to the wall that night in the searing Houston summertime heat.
RAWK for us old farts. One last time with the remnants of a band I love. Plus, I will be highly intoxicated, and not driving, so it will be all good!
The way I see it is that, as much as The Who has given to the world of ROCK, they have the right to play and tour as long as they want to. Who are we to tell them to stop? Besides, I'd rather see The Who than 99% of the ultra-hip SXSW or ACL bands. Maybe I'm just an old fart too? Damn! That's not a good epiphany.....
Chrissie Hynde finally has a band that stacks up to the original Pretenders. They put out a DVD a few years ago that is just top drawer -- I recently downloaded a bootleg show from 1978, and this newish band holds up. Now, Honeyman-Scott was the balls (and Billy Bremner, as a replacement, was no slouch), but whoever she's had for the last few years are damn, damn good.
Agreed. By the way....Billy Bremner is an old acquaintance of mine from my days (daze) in LA. He now lives in Sweden, playing roots rock there, and he's 100% sober. He put out a CD in 1998 on Gadfly called "A Good Week's Work" that just shines. It's all power pop tunes with his special brand of guitar work. It sound sort of what I imagine Rockpile would sound like if they were still together. RMT recommends it. One of my favorite moments in LA was opening for Billy (who was in turn opening for Billy Zoom from X) at Raji's in 1989. We were done, Billy was onstage when Billy Zoom walked in, went up to the stage and started staring at him. Billy Bremner was a little tipsy...in between songs he stared back at Zoom and yelled out, in a fine cockney accent, "OH, F*CK YOU BILLY ZOOM!". Thems was the daze......
You know anybody that wants to buy two tickets in Row 24, section 111? I sold two tickets, now i have to sell the other pair. You know anybody that wants to sit in the club seats in 120? i have four tickets to sell.
Just got my tix for The Who at Toyota Center on Saturday November 18th. Section 107, 20th row...right in the middle of the lower level, halfway to the stage. $97 bucks a ticket, and since I did American Express presale, I was able to redeem some points for a discounted price. Sweeeeeeeeeeeet!!! Can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I read em. They basically said that even though their youth is gone, they still generate lots of power. I'm stoked about this show.
