With all the speculation looming around our head coaching position it appears that the offseason is a tad off-topic. Or is it?

Lets face it, the trade deadline deals were dismal. No dis-respect to our GM but hey Morey don't we have missing peices? Sure we do, especially at the 5 spot. Since when does a no.2 bust fill the gap? What's even worse is that our captain, Shane Battier was shipped out of H-town to bring in such garbage.

There is Morey haters then there is Morey praisers, but if this off-season doesn't go as planned what's our future?.... Nothing.

Dis-regard any biased opinions on our currently constructed roster and analyse what could potentially eventuate in the up and coming off-season. Ranging from draft day deals to signings, what's our fate fans?

Here are the list of the upcoming FA's:

The word 'star' gets tossed around frequently although those whom are referred to as stars, rarely get it done for their respective teams, we've seen it with players such as Melo and JJohnson etc. Although we as Rocket fans are well and truely aware of what two 'stars' where supposed to do but didn't do (Yao+Mac=No championships). Oh, but we were contenders right?

Realistically, not hypothetically, who are the guys we will lure in June?

no good or young free agent will come to Rockets because the situation and Rockets wont offer big money.

say no to other any free agent who is either old or bad.

Rockets will not be a player in free agent market.

I like that. A lot. One thing that alarms me is that I didnt know that Tyson Chandler was an unrestricted free agent. If we kept Adelman and signed Chandler I honestly think the team would be 4-8 in the West.

Before you make any of these decisions, you have to make a decision on the direction of the team -- whether we will rebuild or retool. I honestly don't see us get out of mediocrity if we just keep retooling. If you are rebuilding why would you sign a FA? Just get some young players and scrubs and run with that.

Sign Tyson Chandler, Josh McRoberts, and Jeff Green . Trade Miller, and Scola, re-sign Yao to minimal if possible.

Don't take on any salary except Hayes and rookies. Try to dump Scola to a "contender" for young & cheap talent.

    1. Choose a direction, either start rebuilding all the way or decide to improve the team hoping for Playoffs. None of this "rebuild while still winning" BS that has led to two straight 9th seeds.
    2. Act according to choice in 1

They werent going to resign Battier , so rather than let him expire , they send him to Memphis and take a look see at Thabeet , they have a year to decide to keep , move or cut him. Along with that they get a first round pick. Not bad for a guy who you had no intentions of keeping around after the season.

Brooks - They didnt want to pay him add that to how poor his season went - Getting Dragic and a pick was much better than I expected them to get in return.

They couldnt swing a deal for one of the bigs they were targeting (I dont believe Thabeet matters here) who could have helped this season. Teams asking too much or whatever the reason.
I was disappointed at the deadline to say the least but there are a lot of players available in FA (some restricted) who can really help this team (not to mention hurt teams they leave).

Im open minded about the whole thing right now , I need to see a coach hired , the draft and FA play out before I can say one way or another.

The fact that Morey has failed to solve the problems at the C spot for two years to this point ..... is frustrating.

We'll just have to let it play out and hope for the best.

Maybe Orlando gets punked by Atlanta again and Howard throws a fit wanting outa there ..... (That offense SUCKS).

I'd say we look to the future with yout hand not just think about filling needs. It's what we did when signing Brooks and looking at what he could do in 3 seasons time, rather than thinking he could do anything behind Francis, Alston and M.James.

For that reason, I'd say go for Jerebko. He'll be a future glue guy for the next 8-10 years.

And also for youth, and current positonal need, Deandre Jordan.

The rockets should sign Marc Gasol, DeAndre jordan, and Tashaun Prince... We have money to spend an holes to fill.

    Starting 5
    C-Marc Gasol
    F-Luis Scola
    F-Tashaun Prince
    G-Kevin Martin
    G-Kyle Lowry

Of course we bring D.Jordan of the bench but if Marc doesnt sign than we go for a Chandler. Witch in reality is not bad at all. I believe Yao should sit out this coming season as well before any play time or money should be rewarded. Also a Thadeus Young at the 3 wouldnt be bad at all. He's been great in the playoffs and he would be an upgrade at the 3 if T.Prince doesn't sign.

    Possible 5

    C-D.Jordan/T.Chandler
    F-L.Scola/C.Hayes/P.Patterson
    F-T.Young/C.Budinger
    G-K.Martin/C.Lee
    G-K.Lowry/G.Dragic

Its a decent starting 5 but not quiet as good as the first starting 5.... Dreams do come true and i hope this year they do.

I think we should deal Scola for some younger asset(s) and then also use the MLE on shoring up the SF spots.

I think it's not such a bad thing for us to take a chance on both Thabeet and Yao next season to shore up the C spot, especially given that Hayes and Hill can cover the spot too.

One dream scenario would be to swing a deal for Iguodala and Speights from Philadelphia. It would probably cost us Scola, Budinger and a bunch of picks, but that could give us a fantastic roster for now and future.

    Speights/Yao/Thabeet
    Hayes/Patterson/Hill
    Iguodala/T-Will
    Martin/Lee
    Lowry/Dragic

Who needs picks with a roster like that. I can see them growing into a contender.

If I were the Rockets I would just wait until next year to sign any free agents.

About the only move I would make this off season is trading Scola for a younger player. Also wouldn't mind packaging our picks to move up a few spots in this year's draft.
