first we start with FA's I think if we sign these guys our draft can move a little close to Best Athlete Available...and not so NEED BASED....as it is right now..... 3 new starters on the OL...... big upgrade Jeff Backus Ht: 6-5 Wt: 308 Position: OT Projected as: OT Date of Birth: 9/21/1977 Experience: 5 High School: Norcross HS (Norcross, GA) College: Michigan Enters 2004 as dominant left tackle, starting every game since joining team in 2001 as first-round pick. ... Received Eric Andolsek Top offensive lineman award in 2003, starting all 16 games on an offensive line that led the league in sacks allowed (11). ... Integral part of 2002 offensive line that set franchise record with 20 sacks allowed, fewest in the league ... Named to Pro Football Weekly All-Rookie team, protecting the difficult 'blindside' position in first year. Steve Hutchinson Ht: 6-5 Wt: 313 Position: OG Projected as: OG Date of Birth: 11/1/1977 Experience: 5 High School: Coral Springs HS (Coral Springs, FL) College: Michigan 2004: In 2004, Hutchinson continued his ascent to the NFL elite at his position. At this point, he surely must be considered one of the two or three finest guards in the NFL. He and Jones cemented a left side (perhaps the best in football) that helped Shaun Alexander rush for a franchise-record 1.696 yards. Hutchinson will be a free agent in 2006, and there’s little doubt that 2005 will be yet another stellar season from #76. LeCharles Bentley Ht: 6-2 Wt: 313 Position: C Projected as: C Date of Birth: 11/7/1979 Experience: 4 High School: St. Ignatius HS (Cleveland, OH) College: Ohio State 2005 - New Orleans: Named to the Pro Bowl, but ended the 2005 season on the IR due to an elbow injury. now for our new SAFETY Adam Archuleta Ht: 5-11.5 Wt: 209 Position: SS Projected as: S Date of Birth: 11/27/1977 Birthplace: Chandler, AZ Experience: 4 High School: Chandler HS (Chandler, AZ) College: Arizona State Pro Highlights: Prototype NFL safety…outstanding work ethic…explosive speed…intense, physical contact player. I feel like after we shore up some maybe holes like this, we can focus the draft on who the best player available is.....and not try to fill holes with rookies...... now for the DRAFT Trade Domanick Davis to the Cardinals...... we know Dennis Green wants a running back...and after what DD has done behind our terrible line, I am sure there are teams out there that would want Davis....... trade for picks in any draft not necessarily this one........ draft Bush..... with Mornency and Wells.....we have a trio of very good running backs and the possible HOMERUN, HALL OF FAME back in Bush. but we do not need Davis and Bush on this team.....that is just asking for trouble...... look at the mess that is about to happen in KC with Holmes and Johnson.... nuff' said we can use the rest of the draft for smaller hole filling and depth
First of all, the Chiefs did the same thing with LJ and Priest this season, and it worked pretty well. LJ was on the field every 3rd drive. I expect next season it will be the reverse...with Priest taking the lesser role, and maybe 3rd downs. I think DD and Bush could work even better, because Bush can play the slot some allowing DD to still be in the backfield. I'd like to at least try it out before we ship off DD.
I wouldn't call finding a franchise LT and pass-rushing defensive end along with a true 4-3 linebacker, a weakside corner to go along with Dunta, and a 2nd wide receiver to go along with Andre Johnson "small hole-filling." And anyway, Hutchison will be too expensive and his team just went to the Superbowl, plus he'll want to play for a winner if he DOES move. Bentley is the only guy we have a shot at, and why would we want him? We could draft Nick Mangold and have just as good a guy at center to fit Kubiak's blocking schemes.
well, Backus is the LT I had in mind..... if you read the whole post... and I am just tired of throwing rookies in the line and then expecting them to play like a verteran that has been in the league and started for 3,4 or 5 years... as for DE, I think Peek is going to turn into a stud DE in the 4-3...in a Kearse/Pepper/Freeney mold.... Greenwood was a MLB in Miami before we moved him to OLB..... so look for him to move back... now to WR..... how about we give the new offensive staff a chance to try and make Gafney, Mathis, Armstrong work as secondary threats...... not to mention putting a newly drafted Bush in the slot and our 3 receivers all having blazing speed........with Johnson, Mathis and Bush....
Why would Backus want to come here? We'd have to overpay like we did with Todd Wade, and even then he probably wouldn't want to sign with a team he has very few ties with. As for Peek, I'll have to see it to believe it. Moving Greenwood inside scares the crap out of me, especially considering the injuries the Dline always has. And I'd take great route runners over receievers with "blazing speed" any day of the week. We have a #1 WR, and about 4 or 5 #3's and #4's. Kubiak has always had Rod SMith and Mccafrey to work with - both great route runners, so this current group outside of AJ probably doesn't excite him too much.
he didn't have McCaffrey this season..... it was Lelie and some other young guys...... and a TE........
Is there such a thing as too expensive if we are talking about a dominant offensive lineman...even if he isn't a LT? I mean you have to pay the most to get the best right? You're probably right about him not wanting to come here, though. How does Seattle keep Alexander and Hutchinson?
well looks like we are intrested in a DE for our new system. http://www.nj.com/jets/ledger/index.ssf?/base/sports-0/1139382050217310.xml&coll=1 i dont think we need him b/c we have bigger concerns at the linebacker and DB positions... not that i wouldnt take him though.
I think it was Casserly on 610 a couple weeks back saying getting a pass rushing DE was a top priority. He said that it's kind of tough finding one through FA since teams don't let good ones just walk out the door. Abraham would be sweet. I think Peek could be a big suprise next season, he has all the tools to be a good pass rusher. Also, the draft has a couple stud DEs.
Your LBs and DBs get a WHOLE lot better when you can pressure the QB. Peek on one side and Abraham on the other would be sacry for opposing QBs.
