This is basically a Rockets GM simulator. I'm going to have a few categories with choices of players (that are realistic), and what you get to do, is choose who you'd take. Category 1: Draft Pick (#9) 1. Mike Miller 2. Jerome Moiso 3. Dermarr Johnson 4. Olumide Oyededji 5. Courtney Alexander Category 2: Draft Pick (#38) 1. Jamaal Magloire 2. Soumaila Samake 3. Pete Mickeal 4. Jabari Smith 5. Chris Porter Category 3: Free Agent 1 (pick 1, or if you make no trades, you can also additionally retain Mobley) 1. Cuttino Mobley 2. Rashard Lewis 3. Austin Croshere 4. Bo Outlaw Category 4: Free Agent 2 (Lower Tier) 1. Adonal Foyle 2. Todd MacCullough 3. Brad Miller 4. Darvin Ham 5. other (no big names or rising star types such as the above free agent list, or the Duncan class, or guys like Tim Thomas, basically only bench players, role players allowed/) Category 5: Trades 1. Bryce Drew/Kenny Thomas/future first round pick/portion of trade exception FOR Michael Olowakandi/Pick #18 (choice of Mason, Collier, or Richardson) 2. Kelvin Cato/#9 pick FOR Luc Longley/Shawn Marion (not sure if this works cap wise) 3. RETAIN Mobley 4. Create your own. Here's what I would do: 1. Draft Moiso 2. Draft Mickeal 3. Mobley/Croshere-no trades 4. Brad Miller Lineup: Cato/Olajuwon/Miller Moiso/Thomas Croshere/Williams Anderson/Mobley (Mickeal SG/SF) Francis/Norris Drew, Bullard, and Rogers would be the 3 injury list guys, or replacements for injured playerson the roster, activated when injuries inevitably occur. I had a tough decision between taking 2 FAs, or making a trade (#1). It was also tough between Lewis and Croshere, but I feel there's a better chance of getting Croshere....who possibly will get lost in the shuffle, than there is of Lewis. Keeping Francis happy made Mobley a must, and Croshere gives us the SF we need (as well as a bigger front line) who can play both forward positions. Moiso can play the entire front line, and is backed up (or he backs up) the solid Kenny Thomas. I think the front line is solidified, and Walt Williams, Bryce Drew, and other pieces are now expendable. Category 1 (draft pick)- Mike Miller. I think Miller can be a perfect fit with the Rockets. He is athletic, experienced in big games, a good shooter, and a good defender. Plus Rudy loves the guy, and Rudy knows talent. Category 2 (draft pick)- Jabari Smith. Don't underestimate size. Some teams don't even have one center. I know he won't ever be a starter in this league, but consider that for the future we have no one at center except for Cato. And we know how fragile he is. Category 3 (free agent)- Mobley. He is a great player, and will be a star in this league. We need him badly, and hopefully it's already done as popeye said. Then, sign Kurt Thomas with the 2.25 million exception. (I think he's a free agent, and he shouldn't command that much and this would bring him close to home) Also, resign Pig Miller to fill an IR spot because of his size and work ethic. Category 4- (trades) I came up with my own trade instead of those two. Portland signs and trades Brian Grant to us for Kenny Thomas, Bryce Drew, and a future pick. Then, this is our lineup. Cato/ Olajuwon/ Smith Grant/ Kurt Thomas/ Rogers Miller/ Williams Anderson/ Mobley Francis/ Norris I think that lineup looks good. ------------------ Come back Popeye!!! I'm still very skeptical on Miller. The Rockets I know our good businesses people as they've gotten some good trades. No way they throw out Miller like that if they like them, I bet its a cover. To me Kapono will be just about as good and much cheaper. They are defintely targeting a big man, and no leaks off Etan and Moiso. Just think about that. ------------------ Check out the new and improved Draftsource.net
Drew, Bullard, and Rogers would be the 3 injury list guys, or replacements for injured playerson the roster, activated when injuries inevitably occur. I think that we should NOT have Rogers on the injury list. Carlos played pretty well when he got the chance and when he wasn't injured. Remember how everyone was excited when Rudy said that Rogers was the surprise of the camp at the beginning of last season. Rogers is like a hustle guy, and that's what everyone says we needs. He goes in and does the dirty work, and that has been one of the problems of Kelvin Cato throughout last season because he never liked to do dirty work. Plus, there is always that talk about "improving". Rogers does have game, remember when he went off against UTAH that night that his brother died? And plus he played his heart out for us, and I don't think that putting him on the injured list is the best way to repay him. PLUS, dont forget he's a tall, 6'11 athletic guy that can run the floor. ------------------ treasurer of the moochie norris fan club
