Talk about the series here. Please no PBP in this thread. Unless otherwise noted all games are on CSN-H (for about 40% I guess). 9-27 Adam Warren, RHP vs. Brett Oberholtzer, LHP 7:10 9-28 Andy Pettitte, LHP vs. Paul Clemens, RHP 7:10 9-29 To Be Announced vs. Erik Bedard, LHP 1:10 So we get a Pettitte vs. Clemens matchup Nice
Rumor has it, Mariano will be playing centerfield at some point this series. Kind of cool. And kind of blows my mind that his final MLB games will be here. Anybody have tickets they are looking to unload?
Why would MLB schedule the Astros and Yankees for the final series of the season? At the time the schedule is produced, there are teams that could/should be contenders and could/should be door mats. Potential contenders should close out the season against other potential contenders.
mlb also tried to ban arod for over 200 games. believe me, I thought the same thing about scheduling the Astros but i doubt there was anything dubious behind it
So the second alternate wild card of the hallowed divisional series could be decided??? Pennant races went away with the first wild card... any sort of "suspense" over playoff races went away with the second one. Hell, even the eventual second wild card team shouldn't sweat it... if somebody catches them (ties them), they get a one game playoff.... to get into another one game playoff. It'll feel more like March Madness or the NFL instead of baseball playoffs! One game and out! Do away with all series! (Olbermann-like rant done).

Except that adding a second wildcard made division races far more important, as you saw these last few weeks in the NL Central, despite the wild card race being basically wrapped up.
I bet Girardi could play Mariano at center field and have him batting 3rd in the lineup for each game in the series and the Yankees would still sweep the Lastros.

Totally agree. Meant everything for the A's to push the Rangers out of the division lead. Hugely important. I have to confess, I didn't have the foresight to see it when they first made the move to adding the second wild card team. I knee jerked, and I mean that in a completely non-sexual way.
Jarred Cosart is over the top cool. Self-deprecating and cocky at the same time. All about Houston. Hates Dallas. It's like looking into a mirror, except he gets to live my dream because being a lawyer was 2nd on my list of things I wanted to do...playing for the Astros was 1st. Not sure I ever shared it here...but one of my most memorable moments of my life was taking the field for the last time in high school..knowing it was my last time..and starting to cry. Not like bawling...but just tearing up. Terrible and beautiful all at once.
Its more important... still not the same. (unless its an awful division with two teams with a worse record than the other two wild card teams). I'd love it if there had been a three-way tie for the NL Central... a mini NL Central playoffs!

Yea I doubt Rivera plays this weekend. He is done. Crane probably paid the Yankees not to say anything though, since he is charging extra for these games
Good for Andy going out on top with a complete game. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>Via <a href="https://twitter.com/EliasSports">@EliasSports</a>: With the win, Andy Pettitte (11-11) becomes only P in MLB history to pitch 18+ seasons and never have a losing season</p>— ESPN Stats & Info (@ESPNStatsInfo) <a href="https://twitter.com/ESPNStatsInfo/statuses/384138959082622976">September 29, 2013</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>Andy Pettitte; 1st CG since August 16, 2006 vs Cubs, 1st with Yankees since August 9, 2003 vs Mariners</p>— Mark Simon (@msimonespn) <a href="https://twitter.com/msimonespn/statuses/384136224635494400">September 29, 2013</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
