I am starting a thread for those that are unemployed (either from being laid off or graduated w/o a job). I hope that this thread can be a way to networking. -) Just list your job experience and industry/specialization, location desire to work. I'll start with my info: Financial Services, Investment Banking - 4yrs. Houston, Dallas, NYC, San Francisco, Miami.
Jobs are overrated. Technically, I guess I am unemployed. I have some of them degrees (BBA - Accounting, BA - Advertising), but I'm basically living off some savings and investments for the time being until this movie thing takes off (or I realize that it's not going to take off, and I decide to do something else). But if somebody offered me a job in the advertising field in the D/FW area, I'd be tempted to take it (and I do apply for advertising jobs from time to time, but I never get a response) just because I'd like to work in advertising for a bit. Oh, and as for experience.... Well, I have written, directed and produced some movies. I was Media Relations Director for the Amarillo Dillas baseball team for a spell. I did some ad design for the Denton Record-Chronicle. I owned a weekly newspaper for a little while. Some other stuff, too, but that's all I remember off hand.
B.S.E.E. Graduated with Honors in December 2002. Had three co-op work terms while in college, two at HP and one for a start-up that got bought out by Microchip. I'm interested in Applications Engineering or Systems Engineering. Other interests include Hardware Engineering, and hopefully in the future, a Design Engineering position. I'm looking to go back to school in a few years to get my MBA and go into technical sales. I have a low, low-level job at a company in Houston now, but it's not what I call an engineering position, so I'm looking to move up. Don't get me wrong, I'm thankful to even have any income right now with the market like it is. Places I'd like to work besides Houston include Austin and Dallas (where I went to school). BTW, great idea for a thread!
Paige- Are you still in Amarillo? My bro-in-law is the sports director for NBC/FOX up there and has been in and around Amarillo sports for about 10 years. Oh yeah- BA in Advertising from Texas Tech 4+ years of account management/sales/marketing experience Austin, Houston, Dallas (most likely) Denver, San Diego (dreaming - but still possibilities)
Are you still in Amarillo? My bro-in-law is the sports director for NBC/FOX up there and has been in and around Amarillo sports for about 10 years. Andy Justus? or Jeff Barger? I went to elementary school with one of the Channel 4 anchors - Paige Cook (actually, I guess she's Paige Smith now). And Dusty Green (from Channel 7) and I went to college together. I actually left Amarillo nearly three years ago. I live in Plano now. I go back to Amarillo every couple of weeks to visit my kids, though.
benchmoochie -- what specifically did you do at the bank? My firm is looking to hire someone with mergers & acquisitions experience.
Jeff Barger - but I know Andy too. Wow small world eh? Jeff is one of the coolest guys Ive met. Would he know you? My sister was on Channel 7 as a weekend anchor/reporter for the past couple of years - Faith Miller.
I don't think I know Jeff, and I'm pretty sure he wouldn't know me. I saw on his bio on the web that he went to Amarillo High. Do you know when he graduated from there? (I went to Amarillo High, too. Graduated in 1989). I'll bet we know a lot of the same people, though. Mike Kleinstub was the guy I dealt with at Channel 4 when I was with the Dillas. I think he's in Lubbock now, though.
