I don't know about you guys, but May 3rd is a big day for me. I can't wait to finally see the movie I have waited years for. I'm a little upset with the whole organic web shooters though. I know it sounds far fetched for a teenager to develope a super sticky fluid and a device to shoot it as webbing, but the whole concept of a spiderman is pretty impossible itself. I don't read the comics that often, but one of the last things I read was that Spiderman's powers weren't radioactive, but magical. It was an issue where Spidey meets a rich business man with all of his same powers. I guess the comic writers answer to people criticizing things like mutants and radioactive spider bytes and breaking down why it wouldn't work has led them to make the stories more fantastical to avoid having to explain everything. Ah well, I'm curious to here any fellow true believers' thoughts on the movie or anything related to Spiderman.
I'm already wearing my official Spiderman temporary tattoo (it was in my box of Pop Tarts this morning). Has anyone else noticed how advanced temporary tattoos have gotten since those little lick-and-stick things in Cracker Jacks? Oh, and Spiderman the movie looks cool too.
I am supposed to be getting a spiderman cover for my phone soon I doubt I'll put it on though. I'll wait for a better cover to come out. Hey Jeff your wife is begining to worry me. Oh but I do think the "You're not superman you know" line is funny. I'm assuming she doesnt know he is spiderman right?
Gonna see it a week from thuresday Im not gonna play spoiler this time it should be worth seeing. I have a friend in Cali sent me passes to the Houston screening Im waiting for eight legged freaks.
Wow, another actual Spidey fan, how cool!!! Aside from John Byrne's run, the comics have sucked ass for eight consecutive years(allthough it's starting to get good again) so you haven't missed much(Hell, I wish I hadn't wasted my time on them). That storyline you mentioned was sooooo overrated and came off as a COMPLETE HIGHLANDER RIPOFF imho... I remember how excited I was back when Stan the Man announced the movie waaaay back in '92 in his Soapbox collumn. But after all the legal crap and since Cameron left I've started to dread it. The organic webbing sucks ass. It strips Peter Parker of one of his most essential traits and gives him even more emotional baggage. The footage I've seen so far looks bad. Shrek took CGI to a whole new level- so why does every clip of Spidey I've seen look worse than that Dire Straits video?!?! I don't know much about Tobey Maguire, but I'm sorry he looks nothing like Peter Parker. At least make an attempt at a similar hairstyle. While I'm on it- why didn't Norman and Harry Osborn's classic hairstyles make the film? They gave Wolverine his!!! And the Green Goblin- ugh! I hope and pray that I'm wrong and that the movie kicks ass... but it doesn't look good at all so far.
"Someone has mixed an 'Amazing Spiderman' in with the 'Peter Parker - The Spectacular Spiderman' series. This will not stand." -- The Comic Book Guy (aka AntiSonic?)
What are you, a hairstylist?? Who gives a crap if the "hair" looks right? It's not like any of these characters' personalities are defined by their hair. And I'm sorry, but the ony person in the world whose hairline is even remotely similar to Norman and Harry Osborn is Calvin Murphy. Would you have preferred that he play both of these roles? Tobey Maguire is a slender, dark-haired white kid - that's more than close enough to Peter Parker. But I do agree that the CGI isn't particularly convincing. They might as well have made the whole movie a cartoon.
Well, the studios are smitten with Spidey. Apparently, they believe so much in this movie that they have already signed on for a sequel....as if we didn't see that one coming.
"And I'm sorry, but the ony person in the world whose hairline is even remotely similar to Norman and Harry Osborn is Calvin Murphy. Would you have preferred that he play both of these roles?" LOL, that would be kind of cool, actually... The only reason I'm so adamant about the hair is that they go out of their way to make Kirsten Dunst(sp?) a redhead and give less than half a rat's ass how close everybody else outside of Jameson looks to their comic counterparts. And come on, the Osborn's hair does define them, physically at least. And seriously, is anyone going to see this movie because of the acting? Puh-leaze. I just want a visually faithful adaptation from the comics, something that doesn't appear to be happening. On a sidenote: anybody else think Elton John is a dead-ringer for Dr. Octopus?
I read a review at superherohype.com, and they said that when you watch the movie, all the CGI effects will look more convincing when they are all together in sequence. I hop they are right because he looks like a cartoon with a huge head in some scenes.
I think the movie will be good. I'm not sold on Kirsten Dunst as MJ though. She's not ugly per se, but MJ was supposed to be sexy in the comic and Dunst doesn't come to mind at the top of my sexy list. She's cute just not really sexy. Also MJ had more of a long slim face while Dunst has that cabbage patch round head. I have to see the movie to see if it works. Either way I'm waiting for May 16.
What's May 16? I thought it was coming out May 3rd? They could do a live-action TV series with Laura Prepon as Mary Jane Watson And Scott Foley as Peter Parker
ummmm....go here, look at the pictures, maybe they'll change your mind. http://www.maximonline.com/girls_of_maxim/girl_421.html
When we start getting into hairstyles as part of the critique, its a good sign we're dealing with the trademark Angry Fanboy Rant. (see also bitter fanboy responses to LOTR, X-MEN, and any other comic book/sci-fi/fantasy adaptation ever created). Sorry Anti, I couldn't resist. Anyhow, I'm hoping it will be good. Looking at the CGI, I have to say this: when any of you go in, think Comic Book. Pure Comic Book. Because they are much closer to that kind of graphic approach than any realism. But that's not something I'm going to let bother me.
Game for X-box and PS2 and Gamecube all Spoilers so if you do not want to know anything about the plot or what peter parker does in his spare time wait for the movie. The Game Rocks!!
Man, its crazy how much eveyone is talking about this movie! At Superherphype.com they have a 2000+ post thread devoted only to the organic/mechanis webshooters debate! Some of the guys in my dorm hall have put enormous spidey posters and keep mentioning May 3rd every chance they get. I'm a big spider-man fan, so I don't mind at all. In fact, I even bought the pop-tarts, which I usually can't stand.
Rokkit, it's just that the diehard fans should have the movie be made for them, not for the mainstream or for satisfying some hot-shot director's ego. Spider-Man has a lage enough following as it is, so its not necessary to w**** it out to John Q. Iveneverreadacomicinmylife to make money.
