The Orlando Sentinal is reporting that Detroit gave Orlando a future first round pick in exchange for Orlando waiting until after the 3AM deadline to make a decision on the pick. It also says Orlando is still expected to exercise th option on the pick and send it to Houston, just not until sometime after 3AM tonight. I got a link but I'm not sure if I did it right. http://www.orlandosentinal.com/sports/basketball/magic/orl-spt-nbabeat060201.story?coll=orl%2Dsports%2Dheadlines ------------------
Great news Rocketsiv! Now we are really gonna be expected to be on the 18th pick, unless Orlando change their mind on the last minute. ------------------ Rudy T. will find and fulfill Rockets destiny.
Outstanding info! ------------------ In the end there will be no judges...only witnesses to my greatness.
The article mentions that the Magic will send it to Houston "for future considerations." Anyone know what those are? I thought it was to complete the Don MacLean part of the Francis trade, but maybe there is something I'm missing? ------------------
Maybe future considerations would be, say, a lame-ass 2nd round pick? We owe it to Orlando if they give us the #18. Gives us great flexibility. Great catch, Rocketsiv. Orlando may make out OK in this thing. A couple of 2nd round picks (maybe) just to hold onto a #18 for a week or so. ------------------
Rockets told Orlando they wanted the better pick which is the 18th overall than the 23rd overall, so that's why future considerations may come into play. ------------------ David Wood and Tree Rollins was the best duo in the NBA!
Actually, from what I understand, the pick to the Rocks has to be one of Orlando's own picks or one from Phoenix (as is the case with #18). #23 overall is from Dallas. Wish it were that simple, but it wouldn't surprise me if it's a conditional 2nd rounder or something. ------------------
The 22nd pick is from Milwaukee as part of last year's draft day trade when we drafted Collier. I don't see how it could be connected. ------------------
I'm pretty sure the considerations thing was an error. Orlando doesn't have the option of giving #23. It's #18 or waiting till next year. I'm guessing by future considerations, they meant past considerations (the deal we got it in). I doubt we give up something to get a pick owed to us. Just a couple of days until the June 4 deadline... ------------------ "That's been a lifelong dream of mine." -Vince Carter, after laying it in on a breakaway, much to the Vancouver crowd's displeasure.
NBA.com just said we got the 18th pick, but we also exchanged the 22nd and 23rd picks in the draft. "future considerations" no more (I hope) ------------------
The Rockets got a good pick because Orlando decided to pick up the Phoenix option which they didn't have to do. The 18th goes automatically to the rockets when excercised according to the francis/Maclean deal. Since Orlando is doing the rockets the favor of taking the pick from Phoenix, the rockets have agreed to flip the 22 pick for the 23 pick orlando got from dallas. ------------------
Saturday June 2 4:23 PM ET Rockets, Magic Finish Draft Pick HOUSTON (AP) - The Houston Rockets exchanged first-round draft picks with the Orlando Magic on Saturday, completing a complex transaction from 1999. In the deal, Houston gets the 23rd pick in this year's NBA draft and Orlando gets the 22nd pick. As part of the trade, the Magic obtained the 18th pick in this year's draft from the Phoenix Suns and sent the choice to Houston. The exchange was made because Orlando still owed the Rockets a first-round draft pick as part of a three-team, 11-player deal between Houston, Vancouver and Orlando. It gives the Rockets the 13th, 18th and 23rd selections in first round of the 2001 NBA Draft, which will be held June 27 in New York. In addition, the Magic obtained a conditional pick from Detroit that originally was Orlando's obligation to Toronto for signing Tracy McGrady. That pick was sent by the Raptors to the Pistons in the Jerome Williams deal and was regained by Orlando for delaying notification that it would take the Phoenix pick this year. The delay allowed the Pistons to put off until 2002 accepting Vancouver's No. 1 pick, provided it is not among the top six. Without Orlando's help, Detroit would have had the pick this year, The Pistons have until 2004 to send the pick to Orlando, and the conditions change yearly. ------------------ One tequila, two tequila, three tequila, floor.
