I'm happy for democrats, and I'm happy Obama has a signature piece of legislation. I don't want to sound like a republican but I hope the larger issue of health care costs rising doesn't get dropped and I hope this bill can evolve into solving that bigger problem I believe.
Obama and the Democrats did what they were elected to do: pass healthcare reform. No matter what other issues you look at, this was the biggest entree on their plate coming into office and there were plenty out there who opined that they wouldn't have the intestinal fortitude to get it done. I am sorry to admit that I thought those naysayers right when Scott Brown was elected, but I am happy to see that common sense ruled the day over fear mongering and lies.
Seconded. A couple of years ago I thought that this woman represented everything that was wrong with Congress. Today I have a new level of respect for her -- what she accomplished by getting this legislation passed was nothing less than a historic feat. Well done, Nancy.
I was 185 years from being born... The cause of America is in a great measure the cause of all mankind. ...a long habit of not thinking a thing wrong, gives it a superficial appearance of being right, and raises at first a formidable outcry in defense of custom. But the tumult soon subsides. Time makes more converts than reason. For all men being originally equals, no one by birth could have a right to set up his own family in perpetual preference to all others for ever. These are the times that try men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of men and women. --Thomas Pain, Common Sense, 1776
While I think significant improvements need to made to this bill (Public Option, expansion of Medicare), this was about the best that Obama and the pro-reform Democrats could get through given current political realities. And it is momentous. This is a time for celebration. My favorite quote from the year + long debate- Obama: "I don't get worn down, I wear them down."
I agree, this is something good no matter what else happens during his term. He have my vote in 2012.
I hoped some kids and adults learned something about our legislative process. we don't get see something this big very often
Just doing a brief walkthrough of this thread to indicate that I am policing my own. Carry on citizens.
Ugh. You and rocketsjudoka... always playing the conciliator, seeking the middle ground to a fault. I said WINDBREAKER! I will settle for nothing less (except maybe an Executive Order prohibiting bad polo shirts).
