Just like last year, all game talk goes in here. Please do not give play by play. If you need play by play go to CBS, ESPN, or Yahoo.

Pitching Matchups (With records from last season):

    4-05 Chris Carpenter (15-5, 3.46) vs. Roy Oswalt (20-10, 3.49) 6:05 on KNWS

    4-06 Jason Marquis (15-7, 3.71) vs. Andy Pettitte (6-4, 3.90) 4:05 on FSSW

No matter what kinda team you got... opening day is ALWAYS special.

Looking forward to seeing a healthy Roy-O.

It's in the first post now. I forgot to add that like I normally do. I am disappointed that the first game will be on KNWS. I actually get th echannel but my cable company loses the feed every few minutes. They blame it on weather and distance but I honestly think they are just too lazy to really try and find the problem. Especially since we get the Houston UPN and PBS stations and they come in fine.

Its amazing that the Astros let that channel show the games with such a lousy feed in this day and age.

I would imagine that they don't have a choice. The Rockets game probably has priority over the Astros. Since the games will probably overlap.

Houston is a small television market, the Rockets and Astros have both had trouble getting ANY local channel to make a decent bid for television rights.

Here's a disclaimer for all the doomsday Astro 'fans' in case today's game doesn't go like we all want it to (mainly in terms of the offense):

Carpenter was tough as nails against us last year (excluding his first start of the season), even when we had Kent, Berkman and Beltran in the lineup against him.

He's also had a fabulous spring, and he may just be the true ace of that staff (Mulder is good... but he's got to rebound after that awful end of last year).

That being said, the 'stros offense and Roy will have to be in top form today... the Cards are still steaming after they were 'steam'-rolled in teh World Series last year.

Finally. I wish I could make it out to the game, but I couldn't find tickets. I have the next best thing though which is going to my buddy's house with a big screen to watch, crawfish boil, and a cold keg.

I don't think either team is complaining about the $600 MILLION dollar deal they got from Fox.

Most teams around the US, in all sports, are now mostly on cable... its not that local channels have no interest, its just that its too damn expensive for them to forego their own UPN, WB programming, while shelling out the big bucks to put sports on.

To expand on Nick's point...if the Astros lose today, please don't come in here tomorrow and tell us all how you knew this team was going to suck using one game as a sample size. You freaks.

that's the real problem...in some cases, as i understand it, there are strict rules about pre-empting network programming. if you're a WB affiliate you have to actually show WB programming!!! who'd have thunk it?

Heck Yeah .. the season is finally here. Let's go out and prove something this year boys. Just like when the Braves were thought to be down and out year after year, they kept on coming and its going to be similar to our Astros this year.

Ugh!! I have to listen to the Cards announcers on MLB League Pass since the game is on Ch. 51 in Houston.

This goes along with the statements Bagwell made a few days ago. He said that he wouldn't be suprised if the team started off sluggish and then picked up around the all-star break once the team gelled and the rookies found their roles. The beauty of the MLB season is it's 162 games... which leaves a lot of time for improvements.

I say we split...We have the pitching, but we need the bats to score...

I think we'll be pleasantly surprised by the youngsters...
