Man, my hopes of the Astros winning at least 82 games are in serious jeapordy.

Just checked the schedule, and the Astros have seven games remaining with the '27 Yankees.

That, and 6 with the Cubs, and 3 with the Marlins, makes for a tough schedule despite the powder-puff games with the Reds, Braves, and Rockies.

If they can manage to 2-5 versus the Babe and company, while taking 2 of three from teams they should (and sweeping the Reds), they can still pull off 82-80. But it's going to be tough.

Going to my first game in 2 years on Saturday. Never thought I'd say this in a million years...I'm excited to see Brian Moehler pitch.

Any one got that cardinal roadkill pic from the 2004-2005 playoffs?

    Stat question:

Let's say a batter gets on base because of an fielding/throwing error by the pitcher. If that runner scores, shouldn't that run still be an earned run, since the pitcher is the one who messed up? Or is that still considered an unearned run because it does not matter who commits the error?

Right. It is an unearned run regardless of who makes the error.

    A statistical anomaly:

Assume a runner is on third and the pitcher throws a wild pitch and the runner scores. The run is EARNED. If it is a passed ball the run is unearned. If the pitcher throws the ball away trying to pick the runner off third and he subsequently scores, it is also unearned.

I guess nobody noticed Big Puma hit a game winning HR. Yeah, so did I. I saw it on the ESPN ticker.

    Finally!!!!!

It took nearly a decade but one of baseball's best hitters finally gets his FIRST walk-off hit.

    Congratulations Big Puma!!!

The pitch right before that, he ripped barely foul into the right field stands.

Good win. Have to give it to the Astros for grinding it out, but for real they better finish in the bottom 15 of the MLB standings. We can not afford to lose our first round pick when we sign free agent pitching.

I have argued against this for years. If pitcher makes an error that leads to a run, he should still get dinged with an ER. He made the error. He earned the run.
