Bold prediction: if the Astros win 5 of their next 6 series (Royals, Tigers, White Sox, Brewers, Reds, Royals), they will reach the World Series.
On our pod we were looking ahead to the schedule and said the 21 games going into the Rangers series (3 games ago- all wins) we needed to go 14-7 during that stretch. SO- 11-7 now. I'd really like to see 12-6. We do that and we are almost certainly in first place in the division, and we'd be on a 96 or 97 win pace.
I just feel like if they’re able to consistently beat these types of mediocre teams it means their lineup and pitching staff have settled in and they’ve built their record up to ensure status as deadline buyers with few to no glaring holes, which in the past ten years for the Astros has been a recipe for deep playoff runs.
Turns out the giants look like they might be good. Lost the series to Seattle but that was absolutely snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. That’s really all there is to b**** about from a w/al perspective looking at series this year.
A lineup that makes sense with a fly ball pitcher in the game. And Meyers hitting last. This is progress. If these are your 9 (and they are probably your best 9 other than Caratini over Diaz and Wesneski seems to be Caratini guy) I’d go: Altuve, Alvarez, Paredes, Walker, smith, Pena, Dezenzo, Caratini, meyers. When it’s Diaz in I’d put him behind Walker in 5th.
Ahhh our arch nemesis the Kansas City royals who always seem to play like a World Series champion against us
I’m pretty sure Chas McCormick is a really weird mf. Not sure at all whether that’s in a good way or a bad way.
