I'm at a bar watching without sound. How did that swinging bunt play get called? I thought it was a tag out. If so, how did the run not count?
Same as if the ball was grounded to short stop and he was thrown out at first base... its the third out of an inning, and a runner can't score from third on a bases loaded situation unless the batter reaches base safely (walk, hit or error).
Good solid game. Nice to see Roy pitch well. I wish the team would have been able to pick up the win for him. However, if the team wins, everything is fine for me. Berkman also is starting to show signs of coming out of it. I am certaintly not a scout, but his swing looked a lot better today. When Lance is crushing the ball, his swing evens out and the "plane" looks better. I noticed that today. Additionally, watching, Lee labor in left field on Nix's double was just brutal. What is worse is that his fielding is only going to get worse. I just hope the Astros can get something going here and at the very least make this summer entertaining. I would hate to be out of it and be watching a team that is playing out the string in June.
I am guessing that Berkman's left bicep is still bothering him. He doesn't look right at the plate or when throwing. Aside from the HR, he didn't look good tonight, in my opinion. He did walk once but he was caught looking again and rushed an AB later in the game. He also threw low to Tejada on the play where Tejada got the error. Tejada should have made the catch but Berkman's throw didn't help. If he is ailing, once that goes away, if it does go away, he'll make up for the slow start.
man, both teams offenses are so...not there. votto continues to tear it up, he cant carry the reds himself, come on redlegs! get the offense going
Its starting to look more and more like the Astros may be ok for this season. The offense is still waaaay too inconsistent... I'm hoping that Matsui and Keppinger being back in the lineup will be beneficial when Lance and Carlos really start to get it going (which they will). Hunter is still the wild card for this offense... as this season could define what sort of career path he'll be on (is he truly headed for all star games, or is he just going to be one of those hitters with talent, but just not consistent enough). The starting pitching has been about as expected... however I'm encouraged by Paulino and Hampton having some quality starts, along with Roy continuing to work out of his WBC coma/funk. Wandy is suddenly quite reliable.
Wandy pitched another great game tonight...7 ip, 1 er, 5 k in an 8-3 win. 3 game win streak for the first time this season. I think it's also safe to say that Wandy is pitching like and actual #2, if not an ace, so far this season.
It's more than the numbers with Wandy...are you guys watching him pitch? That curveball is filthy good.
concur.. i can't remember ever looking forward to a Wandy pitched game as much and often as i have this season..
Volquez was straight up nasty tonight. He didn't have great command but the movement on his heater was just crazy. And he kept throwing his change-up for strikes at any point of the count. The definition of a pitching clinic.
