All series talk goes in here. Non series talk goes somewhere else. No PBP, that can be found from other sources if you need it. All games are broadcast on AT&T Sports SW unless otherwise noted.

    9-13 Jake Odorizzi (R) vs. Spencer Howard (R) 7:05

    9-14 Zack Greinke (R) vs. Jordan Lyles (R) 7:05

    9-15 Jose Urquidy (R) vs. Kohei Arihara (R) 7:05

    9-16 Framber Valdez (L) vs. TBD 7:05

These games will also be on Bally Sports SW for those without ATTSW

They have to shut Garcia down for a spell at this point don't they? He's already 30 innings over his career high

While he hasn't been bad over the last month or so, he has been far more hittable than he was prior. With all our starters available, it seems a pretty obvious spot to get him some rest.

My guess is that Astros go to 6 starters, but pull him after 3-4 innings next start or maybe delay start a day or 2. With October really close, I think it would be risky to skip a start completely.

Edit: Caveat: I'm probably an idiot, and Garcia pitches a 9-inning complete game for Dusty on regular rest. I'm leaning more to your side as completely resting him is safer than trusting Dusty with workload management in game.

Would be a lot easier if they knew what they could get out of Javier. What do you think his role will be going forward?

Would be great if they can get him whatever he needs to go back to being a multi-inning weapon out of the pen (or an opener for 2-3 innings).

Stanek is higher in the trust factor than Javier right now. As such, I don't think Javier will be much of a factor in the postseason.

I figure Javier is on mop up duty in the playoffs. A guy that can go 2-4 in the case of a blowout either way.

With storm Nicholas sweeping through, it’s an awfully convenient time to remember that the “Texas” Rangers failed to let HOU use their stadium during Hurricane Harvey, forcing HOU to play in TAM (shoutout Rays, TY). Sweep those bastards.

All I know is, Odorizzi better put up 7 quality ass innings tonight after the tantrum he threw last week.

Doesn’t sound like he’ll get the chance. Unless something has changed with their thinking, the Astros simply don’t trust him to go much deeper. It will be interesting to see how they handle it if the opportunity comes up again.

I'd love to see the Astros start quick and gain a 3-4 run lead so they can afford to give Odorizzi a longer leash tonight. I agree he needs to be given the chance to go deep, but Dusty may not give it to him in a close game.

Why does anyone throw Altuve a first pitch strike? Ya know he's swinging.
