As always, no PBP in the thread. If you need that try one of the game cast sites. Keep discussion to this series. If it is not about this series it goes somewhere else. 7-4 Brett Myers, RHP (3-7, 4.60) vs. Paul Maholm, LHP (4-9, 3.17) 12:35 on FSH 7-5 Wandy Rodriguez, LHP (6-4, 2.97) vs. Jeff Karstens, RHP (6-4, 2.65) 6:05 on FSH 7-6 Bud Norris, RHP (4-6, 3.51) vs. Charlie Morton, RHP (7-4, 3.63 ) 6:05 on FSH
And our offense gets the benefit of their poor defense. Lyle Overbay has 8 errors, which is a ton for a 1B at the halfway point.
Well, this should cheer you up... Berkman has hit 4 HRs in his last 4 games and once again leads the NL in OPS. There's been talk about him being the comeback player of the year. If he keeps this up down the stretch, he'll get plenty of MVP considerations as well, esp. if the Cards make the playoffs.
I agree. It was clear that Berkman was just going through the motions for the Astros last season. I'm not saying that he necessarily quit on the team, but he wasn't the same player last season. He has been energized by playing in front of a packed house every night with a playoff contender. Good for him.
He struggled with the Yankees as well. We will never know exactly why Berkman is having a revival. Maybe the injuries to his legs the last couple of years took a real toll on him. Maybe being rejected by the Astros, or just disappointed with his lack of production, led him to work harder this offseason. I agree that it is good to see him make a comeback and a chance to win again.
It may have. I think his awful stint with the Yankees, where he should have relished the opportunity to play for a contender who was in the LCS, was motivation enough to get in shape and get back to where he is now.
I posted Puma's numbers since May 1st in the Sox thread and while still good, his average was .230 and his OBP was mediocre but he was still slugging well. He's a very streaky hitter and playing the outfield will slow him down. Lets see what he does in the 2nd half of the season before ripping him or praising him.
why would anyone bring up berkman as much as this team sucks. they need a lot more than him. it was a rebuilding trade, time to stop bringing it up. you couldn't trade lee, we all know the dynamics
i don't think they're talking about the trade...they're talking about the decision not to bring him back after the trade. i don't blame the astros one bit for not signing lance berkman for this season.
