All series talk goes in here. DO NOT GIVE PLAY-BY-PLAY! If you need PBP try Yahoo, ESPN, or Sportsline.

9-25 Matt Albers, RHP (0-2, 6.00) vs. Randy Wolf, LHP (4-0, 5.47) 6:05 on FSSW

If they just win the rest of their games, I think the fans would be ecstatic, playoffs or no playoffs. To sweep the division leaders at the end of the season, well, that is unforgettable. The Cards are going to limp into the playoffs, if they make it. Unbelievably, the Astros are STILL in it!

Our projected pitching matchups for the rest of the year should look a little something like this ... of course much of it depends on us sweeping Philly/Pittsburgh, and who knows if Atlanta will try out some guys for next year:

    Tu@Pit - Pettitte vs Snell
    We@Pit - Hirsch vs Chacon
    Th@Pit - Oswalt vs Gorzellanny

Fr@Atl - Clemens vs Chris James
Sa@Atl - TBA (Albers, Sampson) vs Smoltz
    Su@Atl - Pettitte vs Hudson
    Mo@Atl - Hirsch vs Davies

    (Tu@Stl - Oswalt vs Marquis :p )

I think if it came down to it against Smoltz, if the game still mattered to us, Clemens might be pushed back a day to go against him and let Sampson start Friday. Who knows if they'd still run Smoltz out there at that point though.

    I know, I know ... don't count your chickens ...

but there is really nothing else to look forward to with the current state of the Texans. I'm so glad the Astros are at least making this interesting.

We are at the point of it doesnt matter how, just gitter done. Just win baby! Yes a "W" for tonite. :D

STL is really up against it now. I personally dont see them winning 1 of the 3 with the Pads and maybe 2 of 3 vs the Brew Crew. To say they have pressure is like looking at a 1500 ft wave and saying " I think we're going to get wet."

    DUH !!!

I agree. I'm loving this. Ode to piss off the ESPN bologna pundits who have long written us off. Bite me assholes! :D

Did anyone hear Joe Morgan last night being a proponent of one of Moneyball's main points with regards to strikeouts? I thought that was hilarious.

So my kid looks at me last night when we are leaving the game and he says...

HIM: Dad, why do they keep saying its his last home game

ME: because thats our last home game this year

HIM: haven't they ever heard of the playoffs?

    Gotta love it!

He was saying how strikeouts are under rated because they don't give the other team a chance to move up runners or let the defense possibly make mistakes. He went on to say how Pujols is so great because he strikes out so few times a season, and that he would like to lay Albert down by the warm Massachusetts fire.

i think sampson is pitching tonight. astros.com changed it, because 5 minutes ago it said, "astros pass five-game streak to albers."

that's cool, i've really wondered why he hasn't seen more starts. despite the legend on this board of sampson throwing a one-hit shutout, which never happened, he has been very good.

joe blows . . . haven't strikeouts always been a bad thing . . . how could they be under rated. Striking out sucks for more reasons than not moving runners or playing into mistakes. If someone strikes out at a high clip they aren't very good . . . if they strike out very few times they are a substantially better player . . . DUH.
