Yet every team with more hits and base runners than us has hit into less double plays. Why do you think that is?
Maybe the Astros need to adjust their analytics to account for their insane DP rate and bunt more often.
Nasty breaking ball. Also like the swag. That little glance at the home plate umpire walking off the mound this inning had 1000 words in it. Just letting him know that he wasn’t pleased with the last check swing. Also, last time I refreshed was about 3 pages ago, and there are some very unintelligent takes about Framber. Take that nonsense back to the GARM, there is probably a new Melo thread for you to complain in.
Hats off to Valdez, good job. The first MLB appearance is never going to be easy. Glad we got out of that inning with just that one run, could have been WAY worse. Needs to work on his control, but showing signs of promise. Now let's finish it!!!!
I’d like to see some data on number 2; just doesn’t sound right given how aggressively our guys swing. Also stassi and Gattis are definitely fly ball hitters. Bregman I would guess leans a bit more fly ball than grounder. Tyler white and marisnick also I would guess are more fly ball than ground ball hitters. I feel like it’s more we just don’t adjust our at bats when pitchers adjust their pitches to induce grounders. Which of course would reinforce your theory number one about the hitting coach.
Gotta give the guy more chances after what he showed tonight. I mean shoot we have so many options on who to send down given the mediocrity of our pen! Send will Harris down; Harris is brutal in high leverage spots.
You’d figure after four double plays you’d adjust your approach. With a pitcher working the low part of the zone bunting is easier and risk of DP when bunting is negligible. Either that or just get under the damn ball. A fly out is a massively better outcome than just giving out after out away.
This game should be like 5-1. I wonder how much a DP alters the run probability of an inning. It has to be an off the charts impact since not only is a DP a free out but it zaps momentum and deflates an offense.
