Hoping that Andy can turn it around for the Stros tonight.

2 out of 3 against LA should be heading back in the right direction.

Hopefully we won't lose a series to yet another pathetic team.

Yes, Colorado is a pathetic team, I could care less that they almost have a better record than we do.

Colorado is nowhere near a pathetic team. Very good young talent. They may be playing over their heads right now, but they're not pathetic.

They're pathetic, as all Coors Field teams are.

    and it was written.

I was thinking last night, you can't blame the individual players too much for the lack of offense considering how much they had two years ago.

    bagwell
    beltran
    kent

all gone and really has only been made up for with taveras and a more consistent morgan. wilson is okay, you know what you get and lane shows promise, but its really funny looking back on how loaded the offense was in 04.

eh, i don't know, to me we've got around the same firepower or at least comparable to the '04 team... it's just some of our hitters like lane and wilson haven't come through at all like we hoped they would.

wilson's been pretty bad this year (although to his credit, he's hitting a HALF decent .252), not even OK for what his stats show and what I've seen lol.

he's got the occasional game where he hits a pair of singles, or maybe even an entire double.

other than that he's been pretty awful swinging at anything that resembles a pitch heading for the backstop.

on lane, lane's been just as bad... if not worse.

must be pretty intimidating when pitchers look at lane's fearsome .196 batting average, what a ****ing joke.

the only difference between lane and wilson is lane mixes in some walks with his k's and flyouts.

and then like Nick said in the last thread, when everyone else is slumping, it puts too much pressure on Chokesberg and Berkman to produce.

even berkman had a subpar game last night that could have been made up if the rest of our lineup could hit worth a damn.

    Good early reports on Burke:

Chris Burke had an MRI in Houston and the results were positive. He will not need surgery and has already started rehab.

"It appears he will be fine after the dislocation," Garner said. "He's done this before. ... I know he did it once in college. The tendons around the shoulder are stronger [than after the first dislocation.]"

"As of right now I'm just trying to let the soreness subside," said Burke, who suffered a similar injury last Sept. 14 against the Florida Marlins. "The MRI really hasn't changed much since last year when I did it against Florida."

"I fully expect to be back and playing in two weeks," he said. "I think so far I'm ahead of schedule as far as my range of motion is concerned."

"Dr. Linter reaffirmed that I hadn't done any more damage to my shoulder and basically it was something I'm going to be able to recover from and be able to play through," he said.

The offense isn't even close to the 04 lineup, but I don't see Purp going out and changing anything. Where would you make the change? Berkman, Ensberg, Everett, Biggio, and Ausmus are locked in. He's made a comitment to Wilson by signing him, and Lane is one of his favorites. The only player I could see sitting would be Taveras.

Any left handed power hitters available at the deadline? Maybe move Preston over to CF?

Willy T wont be sitting anytime soon. As far as any extra hitters coming in, I dont see us getting any unless we have to deal with a significant injury.

Purp said as much on the adding offense question. "Where?"

I'd think the opposite: that Lane is a 2nd year basically unproven guy. Wilson's on a cheap 1 year contract. If one of them is struggling in mid-June, I can definitely see them looking at alternatives. But yeah, they do like Lane. They very much like Taveras in center too.

The problem is what you have to give up. I'd also expect them to look at relief help. We don't know what the market will be like yet.

p.s. as to LH hitters, Aubrey Huff is a FA after this season. Don't know if Tampa wants to keep him, potentially they don't, they have a ton of good, cheap OFers.

Come on, we made their journeyman mediocre pitchers look like the second coming of Carpenter and Clemens.
