http://stlouis.cardinals.mlb.com/NA...t_id=1476405&vkey=news_stl&fext=.jsp&c_id=stl Notes: Carpenter expected to miss start By Matthew Leach / MLB.com SAN DIEGO -- It's all but certain that Cardinals ace Chris Carpenter will miss his next scheduled start, Tuesday at home against the Astros. Carpenter, who is dealing with bursitis below his right shoulder, threw on flat ground for the second day in a row on Sunday. Carpenter increased the intensity of his throwing, but he still has not pitched off a mound since his last start. The club would like him to throw a bullpen session before he starts. "It would strongly indicate that we're probably not going to push him," manager Tony La Russa said Sunday. Carpenter, himself, did the math, though he would not rule himself out of the Tuesday game entirely. "I don't know what's going to happen Tuesday," Carpenter said. "They're definitely going to take the more cautious side than anything else. "I don't see me throwing off the mound [on Monday]. And it probably doesn't make a whole lot of sense to throw off the mound the day before you pitch." Nonetheless, his condition is improving. Carpenter said he is "feeling better every day," and he said he doesn't feel any pain in normal daily activities. If Carpenter is scratched again, the Cardinals likely would call up Anthony Reyes from Triple-A Memphis to take his place. The logical move would be to place Carpenter on the disabled list, since it could be made retroactive to May 19, the date of his last start. As a result, he could be activated in time to make his next start after Tuesday if his recovery continued to go well. "The positive is that he's doing well now and he's feeling good," said head athletic trainer Barry Weinberg. "When he makes a start, they can adjust and put him where it's the best situation. But right now everything is positive. He's real happy with the way he's feeling and the way he recovered from two days ago's exercise and from yesterday's throw."
WWW. Have to open up the new Busch the same way we closed out the last one. As an aside, not that any of you will care that much, but I'll be at the Tuesday and Wednesday games. So, if the Houston camera folks pan around and show someone in a red Astros hat in the middle of all the Cards fans... it might be me!
oh, no...not the unbeatable st. louis cardinals again!!!!!!!! just like last year!!!!!! woe is me!!!!!
i like it. i'm hoping the astros broadcast will do a little tour around the new ballpark before the game starts.
perhaps you didn't see how we were playing this time last year? i just heard all that mess last year.
we're not 15 games under, but I'll agree we are trying to get back there as quickly as we can, so that's definitely good to see that we're keeping with the trend once again the pitching matchups look pretty damn favorable for US, but of course that doesn't mean **** with our excuse for an offense this year. maybe one of these series we can support our pitchers, and maybe, just maybe, this pitcher named andy pettitte will come back to pitch for us.
Sarcasm my man. What really gets me is Marquis has hit 3 batters today, nobody has said anything about it. If Roy were to miss on accident inside right now I am sure that the umpires will warn him and take away that inside corner. This does not make any sense to me. Even if Marquis did accidentally miss it is not fair to take away the inside part of the plate from the other pitcher.
Agreed... umpires are HORRIBLE at recognizing intent vs. accident. Marquis hasn't intended to hit any Astros today... and if Roy slightly misses inside (and it clips someone), that cannot be determined to be intentional too. And there it is... Roy hits Taguchi... no warning (which is the right call).
