Today's outing inflated Rafael Montero's season ERA to 7.32 after 19.2 innings. In eight May appearances, Montero has allowed 14 hits, walked five batters and been tagged for 13 earned runs — CRome
Just accept the role as an 'advocate' or 'nostalgia piece' of the Astros org... offseason decisions dumb as all hell & yeah, previously the in-game insight was interesting-- but he needs to join Mantellmeno, Dough Roller, AbreWho on a cruise for a few months... bye. For a player and now official adviser not believing in the "numbers of baseball"-- I can't wait until the numbers (in-seat attendance/revenue/ticket sales) dwindle and the expected cash flows prove that analytics actually matter. edit: this has nothing on this game in particular -- it fits the regression / trend.
I think we've swapped games with the Brewers since we moved to the AL, so that bodes well for tomorrow! Go 'Stros.
Pressly had to come in a few times in the 8th inning to save Montero's ass last year in the postseason. He damn near blew Game 5 in the World Series.
This. See Game 5 of the WS, when he gave up one run and then put men on first and third with one out. Pressly saved him. And this season, before his ERA began to skyrocket, he loaded the bases with no outs in what was then a one-run game against the Blue Jays, and then Abreu bailed him out with three consecutive strikeouts.
Did Pressly have to record a 4-out save in Game 1 against the Yankees? I know Montero gave up that 8th inning home run to (I think) Rizzo.
What GM ever does that? No GM says "oh, signing this guy was a mistake" - especially not 2 months into a 3 year signing. You're stuck with him 3 years - tearing him down for no reason in the media has no benefit.
Yes. After the bomb to Rizzo, he gave up a hit to Stanton and then walked Donaldson. Pressly got Carpenter to strike out to end the threat.
Bound to lose this game. It was expected with how much they scored previous game. Win the series tomorrow.
The biggest takeaway is the bounce back performance by France. We have to hold on for a couple of more months until Urquidy and (by some miracle) McCullers returns. So far so great between Bielak and France. Combined era just under 3.20. The problem with Bielak is a whip approaching 2 (see Montero). Eventually he's going to collapse if he didn't pitch better than that.
