Talk about the series here. Please no PBP in this thread. Unless otherwise noted all games are on CSN-H (for about 40% I guess).

4-12 Bud Norris, RHP vs. Tommy Hanson, RHP 9:05

4-13 Lucas Harrell, RHP vs. Garrett Richards, RHP 8:05

4-14 Philip Humber, RHP vs. C.J. Wilson, LHP 2:35

    The battle for 4th place!!!!

Starters need to go at least 6-7 innings for us to win this series. I'm afraid of what that lineup could potentially do to our bullpen.

Having said that, the Angels have shown NOTHING BUT potential so far.

The ballpark in Anaheim is beautiful. I would love to go for a game there and it's out of LA city limits too! I'm going to start planning a trip.

The problem the Astros' starters seem to have had for a while now - especially since Oswalt left - is that none of them have an "out" pitch. Hitters are able to foul off too many 2 strike pitches which leads to high pitch counts which lead to being pulled before the 7th.

The ballpark is pretty awesome. I went there 6 years ago when I was on a visiting colleges for a Yankees/Angels game.

    Please go away Pujols...

Agreed...but I also think Porter is being cautious early in the season. There was really no reason to pull Bedard the other night, regardless of the lead they had. I understand wanting to get Clemens in, but Bedard certainly could have gone at least long enough to qualify for the win.

Don't they have him on a pretty strict pitch count, like 65? I think Bedard even said he wanted to come out cause it's more important to stay healthy early than get a W in the stat book.

And conversely, he wasn't cautious enoguh with Norris in his second start.

They said he was on a "soft" pitch count, which generally means he would finish the inning in which he hit that count if feasible.

Bedard was on a soft count of 65. He hit 65 then finished the inning I believe on pitch 66.

I wonder if moving the AAA to the Woodlands is about the future of the bullpen. Overuse a guy with options, send him down and bring up a guy on the 40 man roster for a week. The Astros seem to have a lot of young high ceiling, low floor guys like Comer and Musgrove who could provide bullpen depth if they don't make it to being starters. Having 14, 15 or so bullpen pitchers that get shuttled back and forth between the MLB and AAA team would be a very Morey-esque move....with the exception of them actually playing up until recently.

You can only make so many moves back and forth (options) before you have to expose a player to waivers prior to sending them back to the minors, otherwise this would be an ongoing exercise regardless of where a minor league team was located. Also, there is a time limit as to when a player can be recalled once they are sent down, unless an injury occurs during that time frame.

Options refers to years not individual moves. The team has three option years for a player once he is on the 40 man roster. The time limit is ten days to be recalled. I don't think there is a time limit a player must be in majors before he can be sent down. As long as you aren't sending down one of your top relievers, the time limit shouldn't be a problem. I'm thinking this is more useful for guys that pitch multiple innings and lefty specialists and not closer, setup men types.

I'm only thinking 1-2 guys may be going up and down at a time. I can definitely see this being useful against a team with a ton of lefthanded hitters. For a three game series, bring up a couple extra lefties. Send them down after the series and bring up a couple of righties for 7 days before you bring back the 2 righties that got sent down in the first place. It only works if a team has a lot of depth in bullpen.

Those weren't Rangers fans that traveled to Houston. Those were bandwagon fans that have either switched allegiances since 2005 or they're DFW ex-pats that suddenly realized they had a baseball team.
