We're just a little over a month away from kickoff and I can't wait!! 1. Who's your favorite to win it all? 2. Who will win the Heisman? 3. Who are the Top 10 players/teams? 4. Who will go #1 in next years draft? 5. Who's the most underrated/overrated team? 6. Please feel free to add anything else. September can't get here fast enough!! 1. You have to give the nod to Ohio State, IF they get past Texas, they have a pretty breezy schedule IMO. Look for Troy Smith and Ginn to have bigger seasons. And while they lost a TON on defense, Tressell always puts up a good defense. 2. I think Adrian Peterson (if healthy obviously) will win it. With an improved OL and I don't think Bomar can be any worst than last season, AP could have a huge season. Guys like Quinn, J. Russell (LSU), and Ginn could be viable candidates. Even Jamaal Charles could be in the mix if he gets enough carries. 3. Too tire, will do it tomorrow. 4. I look for either Adrian Peterson or Brady Quinn to go #1 next season. 5. Most overrated team: West Virginia Most underrated team: Texas (our defense should be incredible) or Florida (year 2 under Meyer should be much better considering the offense he runs).
I like Notre Dame, I still can't believe they didn't beat USC that one game. And of course like everyone else I'll be looking forward to seeing the new Longhorns squad.
I don't get all the West Virginia love. My surprise team is going to be Clemson. I think they take the ACC. Texas, I just don't know. Like you said, the defense should be great, but if the QBs can't throw the ball, it's going to be tough to beat OU or OSU.
ACC is going to be great this year. I think GaTech will suprise lots of people. (my darkhorse). Texas I see them as a BCS contender again. TAMU, this is a make or break year for Francione OU, who cares. TT, video game football! Ohio State - top 3 finisher (if they beat UT in austin)
The reason is because they play in the (not so) Big East. Does the Big East still get a BCS bid? If so, that's a travesty. Since Miami and VT left, that conference is a 2nd tier conference. Even if one of those teams runs the table, they shouldn't get a BCS bid. I'm not a huge Notre Dame fan, but I really like their coach. I think they'll suprise a lot of people this year and be in the hunt all year long. And I think that's great for college football overall. I'm not ready to crown AP for the Heisman just yet until I see what Bomar can do. If Bomar can't throw the ball, look for teams to put 9 in the box against AP. It all depends on Bomar. I hope Snead gets the ball for Texas this year. I want to see what this kid can do. The UT defensive front 7 is as good as ever and, even though they lose what's his name at RB, they still have Charles and Young. Plus, I really want to see what Melton can do too. My darkhorse NC is........Notre Dame. Kind of weird to call a school that has won 11 NC's a 'darkhorse'. EDIT: Oh yeah, Sam Houston will get creamed by UT but then go on to win the super competitive Southland Conference.
1. This is really tough in such a wide open year. However, I will say that I don't expect Auburn, OU, or Notre Dame to win it all, despite all the hype each team is getting in preseason mags. I might go with Ohio State because of their offensive power if they can get some of the D replacements to step up. They could still win it all even if they lose to Texas. It might be another cloudy year at the top, unlike last year. 2. I think the Heisman will go to Troy Smith or Brady Quinn. ND is a hype machine if there ever is one. 3. In no order, players that come to mind include Troy Smith, Quinn, AP, Marshawn Lynch, Patrick Willis, Dwayne Jarrett, LaRon Landry, Paul Posluzny, probably lots more that I can't recall right now.... 4. Probably Quinn or AP 5. I think Louisville and West Virginia are overrated, but I also feel they can be in the mix for the nat'l title because of how weak the conference is. I hate that, too, but at least WVU proved they could belong with the way they played with UGA in the Sugar Bowl. I also think Auburn, OU and ND are overrated. OU still has big o-line issues, ND couldn't play D worth a damn last season....And I just see Auburn struggling again with high expectations and the toughest conference in America. Underrated? How about Cal? I think they could turn some heads out west, and this might be the season to spring a win on USC while they are retooling. Any games people plan on attending this year? Last year, I went to UGA-Boise St. in Athens, UT-Ohio State in Ohio, UT-Colorado and UT-Colorado for the big 12 title, The Alamo Bowl, and the Rose Bowl. So far this season, we are definitely going to UT-Nebraska in Lincoln, and hoping to find UT-Ohio St. tickets for Austin....
I am going to homer it up and say my Buffs will win the North again (which, yes, is like being voted the prettiest girl in Antarctica). I am fully sipping the kool aid surrounding Hawk Love and think the Buffs are going to surprise a few people. The only games on our schedule that you look at immediately and think, "Loss without a doubt" are Oklahoma and Georgia. Plus, the north is a mess. Nebraska is overrated, like they always are. Congrats, you beat a CU team that had officially given up on the season the week before (loss @ ISU) and then beat Michigan in the worst officiated game in the history of mankind. Hardly your "return to dominance". ISU has the talent on offense, but as always you have to wonder if they'll put it all together. MU could be ok, but after seeing how Pinkel wasted Brad Smith, I refuse to give them any shot. KU and KSU just suck. It's sad that it's July and I'm already hoping Notre Dame goes 0-12 this year. Apparently Brady Quinn touched a child on the forehead who was dying. Not only did the kid beat his disease, but he also now has superpowers. I agreed with that statement until the Sugar Bowl last year. Remember, the Big East champion was up 28-0 on the SEC Champion at one point, and some consider the SEC the best conference in the game.
1. Favorite - Ohio State, they had one close loss to Texas and another game they should not have lost in the Big Ten. Still, even with the loss of Hawk and Carpenter on defense, they're still better than everyone else in the Big Ten and I think they're refined enough to win it all. 2. Heisman - Brady Quinn, his team won't win it all because I'm not convinced that they can play defense yet but they're offense should be a thing of beauty. Quinn is incredibly solid and has all the atributes to be a great NFL quarterback and is in a system that maximizes his potential. 3.Top 10 players - No idea, whatever I say will change as the season progresses. There are always guys who come out of nowhere and crack a list like this. 4. #1 pick - Brady Quinn, quarterbacks are sparse to nonexistant in this draft and if Alex Smith can go #1, then I'm sure Brady Quinn will go #1 5. Underrated/Overrated - Ooh, no idea on this one.. West Virginia in some ways could be both. I think everyone wrote them off last year and they just blew by everyone and beat Georgia in the Sugar Bowl. The core of their offense were two freshman so they're only going to get better and their unorthadox version of the Spread offense as well as their unorthadox defensive patterns really throw people off. I think people still haven't really taken them seriously yet. On the flip side, they're schedule is a downright joke. They play count em, 1 ranked team (Louisville) who itself is probably overrated. They can easily go undefeated but they in no way deserve national championship consideration with that lousy schedule.
OK, I agree with you guys about West Virginia. They looked great in the Sugar Bowl and that QB and RB are both coming back. Their version of the spread/zone read or whatever you want to call it was 2nd only to the VY led version of it last year. It should be fun to watch. But, yeah, their schedule is a joke, so I'm not sure what to think of them.
True. But I also look at the success we had on the ground when VY had trouble throwing the ball a couple seasons back. Obviously having Cedric Benson helped a lot, but I think our core of Charles/Young/Melton is stronger. We're bringing back most of our OL, which I think is a Top 2 OL. But I think the defense is gonna carry us, it's definitely going to keep us in the Ohio St. game. Even though we lost Huff, Rod, C. Griffin, A. Harris, I look for our defense to be much stronger in year 2 under Chizik. BTW, I expect Chizik to leave after next season.
I pretty much ignore all college football that is tied to the BCS now. CUSA/MAC/WAC/MWC are the conferences I know the most about, but no one ever likes to discuss them. So ****.
You shouldn't let the BCS stop you from watching major D-1 football, you're missing out on some of the best sports you'll ever see.
Same goes for I-AA, especially when playoff time comes around. That's right, I said playoff. You see, we actually HAVE a playoff.
I seriously disagree. The BCS has ruined d1 for the most part. I only pay attention to the leagues that play fair, otherwise you're just cheating yourself.

I'm not a big fan of the bcs either, but I'm not going to miss out on an entire season of football because of what might happen to 1-2 teams at the very end.
