Yeah, TGS time again. This is a 3 day event, from Thursday to Saturday (although given time zones, it is sort of like Wednesday-Friday here). Nintendo, like years previously, will not be attending TGS, so most of the Wii/DS stuff will be coming from 3rd parties. As for Microsoft…well, it is Japan…so yeah. Kaz Hirai (president of SCEI) will have a keynote the first day (starts at 8pm central tonight I believe), so there might be some incentive for Sony to announce something of importance given that the spotlight will be there (assuming they actually have anything of importance to announce of course). It is a keynote though, and not a press conference, so don't expect too much (Kutaragi rambled on for about an hour or so last year about nothing, but then announced at the very end the inclusion of HDMI in SKUs and a price drop for the PS3 in Japan). First bits of info are starting to trickle out… Kingdom Hearts stuff: http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3162929 I don't even want to get into the rumors that are related to this... MGO will be bundled with MGS4. Here is a script of the new trailer for MGS4 (trailer will be shown later on…BIG SPOILERS sort of): Spoiler Some (MGS4) images from Famitsu (again, spoilers, so just in link form): http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q81/robertphi/87477_viploader481353_122_473lo.jpg http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q81/robertphi/87479_viploader481354_122_340lo.jpg http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q81/robertphi/87485_viploader481355_122_583lo.jpg http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q81/robertphi/87149_viploader481356_122_864lo.jpg http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q81/robertphi/87155_viploader481357_122_748lo.jpg http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q81/robertphi/87160_vlphp070326_122_678lo.jpg Also, a demo for GT5P will be available on October 20th (in Japan I guess, not that it really matters).
MGS4 trailer available now. Note that it may contain more spoilers than past trailers (you may know this if you read the script), although I think it is all in Japanese anyway, so some of the spoilers might be missed (unless you know Japanese of course): http://ruliwebfile.empas.com/mpeg3/tgs2007/konami/ruliweb_tgs2007_konami_mgs4_pr_hdv.wmv This site is getting hit HARD, so downloads are going really slow. Some people are trying to mirror it (should be up on Gamersyde soon hopefully), so I'll edit those links in later. edit: Gamersyde link: http://www.gamersyde.com/news_5093_en.html Try to use the torrent, at least until all the craziness dies down. While we're waiting, I should mention that Konami (I think) is making a Wii Fit-esque game. The name of the game? Wii Fitness. Good job Konami.
According to Famitsu, "A third party game that will save the PlayStation 3 in Japan is to be announced tomorrow." Smells like a Final Fantasy 7 remake.
why would a remake of an old game be a system-seller? I don't see much of a market for that, especially not for a $500 system yeah there have been remakes of other FFs recently, but they are on handhelds , which are a lot cheaper. and even then, the remakes don't sell that much
A FF7 remake would be a huge system seller in Japan. Japan doesn't give a @#%@ about the Halo 3's of the world.
I'd have to check some stuff out again to make sure, but I'm almost positive that this did not come from Famitsu. It came from an anonymous poster at 2ch IIRC, posted around the same time as info from the latest issues of Famitsu was going around (so it was easy to merge the two together). I saw it posted in the Famitsu thread at NeoGAF, but the person posting it from 2ch (where info from Famitsu comes from) mentioned that this was just a rumor from the boards. IIRC, they noted that the game was being funded completely by SCE. Little point in debating how it got started since it won't be long before we know the truth (believe the rumor said it would be announced today). Another rumor going around at about the same time was that Konami would be remaking (I think) Policenauts for the PS3, and that White Knight Story would release in Japan by the end of January. Given my own feelings about a potential FF7 remake as well as the reactions I've seen from many other FF7 fans (just check out reactions from when they showed off the PS3 tech demo), I'm pretty sure a FF7 remake for the PS3 would be the biggest system seller it could ever have (probably bigger than GT, and definitely bigger than both FF games in development for PS3, unless things drastically change). Of course, as mentioned, this would help the PS3 out a lot in Japan (well...and practically everywhere else too). Guess it wouldn't necessarily have to be an exact remake either (FF7 with FFXIII battle system, or something like that), which could give it some freshness. That said, I wouldn't doubt it if it wasn't necessarily a remake, but just another FF7 game, perhaps a conclusion to it all. There FF7 compilation did not end with FF7 Crisis Core, according to Square-Enix. It would actually be interesting if they remade FF7 for the PSP (using the same engine and most of the assets from CC), and then did a new FF7 game for the PS3. Not sure if I would prefer that over the alternative(s), but it would be interesting.
wow, do you really think so? that would seriously be a sad state of affairs if that was really the case why would more people buy a remake of some random FF instead of a new one? that just doesn't make sense to me as you pointed out though, I'm defining 'remake' just as an identical re-release of the old game...I don't mean if it's some spin-off from the game's setting, that to me would still be a new game. do you really think there is some massive market for buying the same old game? I guess I just personally don't understand it, I just don't like to play old games that I've already completely been through before. and then not only that, you would be paying full price again for the same game. I mean I'm a graphics w**** and everything, but a graphics change alone isn't worth 60 bucks
That's the worst script/dialogue I have ever read. That makes "All your base are belong to us" Shakespearian by video game standards.
I should note that I might be buying into the hype more than I should. There's not really any real way to know how popular a FF7 remake would be (unless I missed some huge surveys). It just seems that way based on what I experienced during the last 7 years or so (back when fans started clamoring for a FF7 remake, or even just a continuation of the franchise...which they got, whether it was exactly what they wanted or not). I don't think I've seen many FF fans that wouldn't be interested in a FF7 remake online (and the few that didn't want it seemed to want a remake of FF6, FF8, or FF9). But for all I know, this could be just 1% of the FF7 fanbase, and the other 99% couldn't care less about a remake. Of course, Square-Enix has given enough attention to the tech demo and the franchise at various public events, so if they do go through with it, I'm assuming they will be doing so knowing that people would respond positively to it. This is by far the most popular FF game, probably the most popular RPG (certainly the most popular console RPG, unless I'm forgetting something), contains some of the most popular characters found in video games (mostly just Sephiroth I imagine), and probably one of the most popular console games in gaming history, so obviously there would be a lot of potential there if most FF7 fans were interested in the game (not to mention new fans of FF...probably isn't very easy to track down a copy of FF7, and a lot of the younger fans probably can't even play it due to how "archaic" it is). I will say that I would expect some changes to the game, if they did go through with a remake. As I mentioned earlier, I wouldn't doubt it if they altered the battle system (and possible the leveling system). The story might see some minor changes (if nothing else, we'd get a MUCH better translation, which might as well mean a slightly different story). Of course, we'd get cutscenes with voice acting and all that good stuff. New/remixed music, new/altered enemy designs, new items, and probably some new areas to explore. Basically, the main story would be roughly the same, but everything else might see some changes (hopefully for the better). Not saying this will happen, but if this was going to happen, I would think that at least some of these things might be addressed. I don't really care what they do personally, since I'd probably enjoy a remake or a new FF7 game (done right of course). Of course, if they try to finish off the FF7 compilation, I'll probably have to check out FF7: Dirge of Cerberus since I think it probably has some important story elements (along with Crisis Core). Fortunately, I can probably watch all the cutscenes on Youtube or some other site. What's wrong with it? The formatting of the text (some of the paragraphs aren't during the same scenes I believe) and the lack of video to go along with the text certainly doesn't help, but it doesn't seem that bad to me (especially if it was a quick translation from Japanese). It certainly isn't as bad as a number of games I've played (regardless of where they were developed). And yeah, this is an all-new trailer (goes along with the script I gave earlier, which I forgot about when I posted the video). We'd be extremely lucky if it was on the PSN during the update this week, or possibly even next week.
FF7 with graphics updated to this gen would blow everything currently available out of the water I dont see why this is such a big deal, every metroid sequel is almost identical, same with zelda, are the mario karts any different every generation? theyre just updated graphics of a great classic
totally different because each Metroid and Zelda are *completely* different worlds and levels. I don't know about the mario karts cause I don't play those
http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=3241 The Playstation 2 remake of Dragon Quest V sold 1.1 million units in its first week in Japan. I'd say that's pretty good sales.
Same reason Titanic tops all box office records. It's sad and no one will admit it, but that's why FF7 will be a system seller. We all wish to hang to the memories of those characters just a little longer.
haha...and guess what it also says in the very article you posted: "That said, it's still a fair bit less than the sales of the last new Dragon Warrior game - Dragon Warrior VII, released in 2000, sold over 1.8 million units in its first week, and anticipation for the next new title is huge in the Far East, easily matching the hype surrounding the forthcoming Final Fantasy XII" that's my point! Square-Enix should focus all their efforts on the new FF for the PS3 I'm not saying that no one would buy a FF7 remake. I'm just saying I would *think* a new FF would sell more. that's colored by my own feelings in that I don't understand why people would buy an old game
